Full Job Description

The opportunity:

The Director of Legal Operations will join ORBCOMM to lead the implementation and management of our contracts database, including the implementation of workflow tools designed to increase the efficiency of the internal contracts approval process for customers and vendors, as well as negotiate customer and vendor contracts. This position reports to the General Counsel and will support the greater Legal Department with all operational matters and initiatives. This role will initially be focused on developing and implementing a contracts management repository and workflow tool. The successful candidate will manage the database and associated process improvements going forward. The core duties for this role include Legal Department operational initiatives as directed by and/or in support of the greater Legal team. We are looking for a self-reliant individual, capable of creating and driving opportunities for change through action and influence with the ability to improve processes and procedures as well as support departmental peers with contracts and legal initiatives.


What you can expect:

  • Leading ORBCOMM’s digital contracting implementation, rollout and workflow process development to help optimize internal contracting processes and boost productivity.
  • Managing the contracts database going forward to ensure it is maintained accurately and up-to-date with all new customer and vendor contracts and collaborating regularly with all stakeholders.
  • Leading the integration of the legal team’s digital contracting workflow with other company tools and applications (with IT/IS) to help improve productivity.
  • Analyzing data about the contract workflow and seeing which parts of the workflow may be slowing down the execution process and consistently identifying areas for improvement and opportunities for the use of new technology.
  • Reviewing, redlining and negotiating customer and vendor contracts, NDAs, amendments, etc., and supporting other contracts initiatives.
  • Analyzing new and old contracts with stakeholders, business partners, suppliers, and customers to make sure the content is sound and executable from both a legal and business risk perspective.
  • Creating and reviewing automated templates for customers and vendors.
  • Identifying other areas for operational improvements within the Legal Department and owning the implementation and execution.


Must-have Skills:

  • Love for process and improvement- (a legal background with a desire to pursue a career in Legal Operations is desirable): You should have a love for process and improvement and must be tech savvy. You must be consistently looking for ways to better automate processes and streamline methods throughout the Legal Department and the company overall to help improve operational efficiencies.
  • Collaboration skills: You will work with many different types of individuals, both externally and internally and must be a team player, capable of leading and influencing within and outside of the Legal Department.
  • Attention to detail: You should have an eye for detail to review, summarize and revise and edit customer and vendor contracts and all associated documentation.
  • Business knowledge: You must have a desire to understand how the business works, what standard clauses the organization typically uses and for what purposes, and risk management as it relates to both legal and business risks.
  • Negotiation skills: You must have the ability to negotiate with stakeholders and internal and external parties to make reasonable changes to contracts and provide alternatives if needed, or a desire to learn and develop such skills.
  • Communication skills: You must have strong communication skills to negotiate and collaborate with others to execute and make changes to contracts as needed, as well as to lead and influence throughout the company and externally.
