This role focuses on the design, implementation, and optimization of advanced process control systems to maximize plant throughput, improve product quality, and minimize operating costs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in control theory, instrumentation, and automation within industrial settings, with specific experience in mineral processing being highly advantageous. This hybrid position requires close collaboration with plant operators, metallurgists, and maintenance teams, blending on-site analysis with off-site system development and support. You will be instrumental in driving continuous improvement and ensuring the reliable performance of our automated systems.
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, and maintain advanced process control (APC) strategies for mineral processing plants.
- Develop and tune PID loops, model predictive control (MPC), and other advanced control algorithms.
- Specify, install, and commission instrumentation and automation hardware (PLCs, DCS, SCADA).
- Develop and maintain process simulation models for control system design and operator training.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to process control systems, instrumentation, and automation equipment.
- Analyze plant operational data to identify opportunities for optimization and implement control system improvements.
- Collaborate with metallurgists and engineers to understand process requirements and translate them into control system solutions.
- Develop and deliver training programs for operators and maintenance personnel on process control systems.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and contribute to a safe working environment.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in process control technology and automation.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field with a focus on control systems.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in process control engineering, with specific experience in the mining or heavy industrial sector preferred.
- Proficiency in control system design, implementation, and troubleshooting for systems like DCS (e.g., Emerson DeltaV, Honeywell Experion) and PLCs (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens).
- Experience with process simulation and modeling software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) is a plus.
- Strong understanding of instrumentation, sensors, actuators, and field devices.
- Knowledge of mineral processing operations and their associated control challenges is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
