**Overview of The Department**
Commercial Rating and Underwriting (CRU) sits within the Credit and Fraud Risk (CFR) division and forms the institutional credit risk management function within American Express. The CRU team plays the critical role of assessing and managing the risk of institutional exposures across all business units within American Express, and in all regions globally. Credit exposures are primarily generated through corporate and small business card programs, via merchant service relationships where non-delivery risk exists, and among the securities portfolio held for firm-wide liquidity. CRU is led from Salt Lake City with regional teams in New York, London, Singapore and India.
In addition to determining the internal credit rating which drives the probability of default of each exposure, CRU also calculates the loss given default of these obligors while underwriting card programs. As a bank holding company, American Express must comply with the highest global banking standards set by Basel and implemented by the bank's primarily regulatory, the Federal Reserve.

Analystwill be based out of India, and responsible underwriting credit exposures predominantly for the English speaking markets. + Provide input to assist leaders with credit risk management decisions to ensure satisfactory credit portfolio risk examinations

Provide sponsorship and strategic vision for People Development initiatives aligned to Financial Crime, Compliance, and Group activities, as well as supporting the annual BAU HR cycle. Ensure effective communication across Financial Crime and the business to all key stakeholders in relation to FC Detection matters
+ Support the sharing of developments and best practice across the wider FC Function. Support delivers the value stream approach aligned to detection outcomes to deliver a seamless integration of cross-functional expertise. Maintain and develop positive and professional working relationships with senior business leaders, Risk and Compliance colleagues at Group, Regional and Market / Entity level
+ Work effectively as part of a team, taking the lead where appropriate and contributing to team output and collaboration. Foster learning agile culture, promoting proactive review of lessons learned. Support an inclusive environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand. Ensures effective and open communication, team building, knowledge sharing, coaching and mentoring not only within the function but to the broader organization
**To be successful you will:**
+ Strong understanding of Global Financial Crime landscape and the various risk typologies and having good visibility to the eminent changes in landscape.
+ Existing Financial Crime Detection capabilities and the limitations therein.
+ Awareness of technological advancements in Financial Crime detection capabilities.

+ The role will assist the Group in achieving a balance between the demands of regulators, external bodies and governmental initiatives and the Group's shareholders and customers in enacting FC compliance; being alive to the political, management, regulatory and reputational implications of a particular decision and courses of action at a global level; assisting executive management in the development of controls and systems and influencing the way in which the business is conducted in order to manage these risks, meeting Group risk appetite. The increased focus on individual liability for senior managers, particularly Risk Heads, makes it increasingly important for the Group to be able to provide adequate systems and controls. The role is one where regulatory authority have high expectations and is likely to come under scrutiny as part of any major regulatory investigation.
