Reporting To: Vice President - Medical Coding (Quality and Training)

Department: Medical Coding – Quality & Compliance


Profile Description

This role is responsible for defining and driving the quality strategy across one or more medical coding portfolios while ensuring coding accuracy, regulatory compliance, client satisfaction, and continuous process improvement. The Director – Quality will lead enterprise quality initiatives, strengthen audit governance, partner with Operations and Training teams, and leverage analytics to improve coding quality, reduce denials, and enhance client outcomes. The role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with industry standards, payer guidelines, and organizational quality frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Process

  • Own the Quality Management System (QMS) across assigned coding portfolios and ensure consistent execution of quality processes.
  • Establish and maintain coding quality standards aligned with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, payer policies, CMS guidelines, NCCI edits, and specialty-specific coding requirements.
  • Drive achievement of internal and client-defined quality SLAs across all accounts.
  • Develop audit methodologies including concurrent, retrospective, prospective, focused, and validation audits.
  • Ensure calibration across Quality, Operations, Training, and Client teams through standardized audit guidelines.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for quality defects and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Monitor coding trends, denial trends, payer edits, and regulatory updates to proactively mitigate quality risks.
  • Drive continuous process improvement initiatives through Lean, Six Sigma, and automation opportunities.
  • Standardize quality scorecards, audit tools, and governance dashboards across portfolios.
  • Ensure readiness for client audits, internal audits, compliance reviews, and external accreditation requirements.
  • Establish governance around coding policy changes and ensure timely implementation across operations.

People

  • Build and lead a high-performing Quality organization across multiple coding specialties.
  • Coach and mentor Quality Managers and Leads to improve audit effectiveness and leadership capabilities.
  • Develop competency frameworks for auditors and quality professionals.
  • Partner with Operations and Learning teams to identify knowledge gaps and implement targeted training interventions.
  • Drive certification programs (AAPC/AHIMA), continuing education, and ongoing competency assessments.
  • Promote a culture of quality ownership across Operations rather than quality inspection.
  • Drive employee engagement, succession planning, talent retention, and career development within the Quality function.
  • Conduct regular calibration sessions to ensure inter-auditor reliability and consistency.
  • Foster innovation by encouraging adoption of AI-assisted quality monitoring and analytics.

Client

  • Serve as the Quality leader during client governance meetings including Weekly Business Reviews (WBRs), Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), and Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs).
  • Present quality performance, audit findings, denial trends, and improvement initiatives to clients.
  • Build trusted client relationships through proactive communication and consultative quality leadership.
  • Partner with client coding compliance teams to resolve coding interpretation differences.
  • Support client onboarding, transitions, and implementation activities by establishing quality governance.
  • Lead provider education initiatives arising from coding audit findings when required.
  • Ensure client quality KPIs, contractual obligations, and compliance expectations are consistently achieved.

Financial

  • Improve client ROI by reducing coding defects, rework, denials, and revenue leakage.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to improve first-pass quality and operational efficiency.
  • Support account profitability by minimizing quality-related cost of poor quality (COPQ).
  • Measure and report financial impact of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in business reviews and support strategic growth opportunities through quality excellence.
  • Drive automation initiatives that improve audit efficiency and reduce manual effort.



Governance & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS regulations, payer-specific guidelines, OIG recommendations, and organizational policies.
  • Monitor coding compliance risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Lead internal compliance audits and support external regulatory audits.
  • Maintain documentation supporting quality governance and audit readiness.
  • Ensure timely dissemination and implementation of coding guideline updates.

Analytics & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop executive dashboards highlighting quality trends, DPU, accuracy, denials, auditor agreement, productivity, and compliance metrics.
  • Perform advanced trend analysis using audit data to identify systemic process improvements.
  • Utilize statistical quality control techniques and predictive analytics to improve coding performance.
  • Lead enterprise quality transformation initiatives leveraging AI and automation.
  • Benchmark organizational performance against industry standards and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Graduate in any discipline is mandatory.
  • BPT, MPT, B.Sc Nursing, M.Sc Nursing, B.Pharm, M.Pharm, BOT, or Life Sciences preferred.
  • AHIMA or AAPC certification (CPC, CCS, CCS-P, CIC, CRC or equivalent) is mandatory.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt preferred.
  • MBA or Master's degree in Healthcare Administration or Quality Management will be an added advantage.
  • MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, or other healthcare professional qualifications would be an added advantage.

Role Prerequisites

  • 14+ years of experience in Medical Coding with significant leadership experience in Coding Quality and Compliance.
  • Minimum 5 years of managing enterprise quality programs across multiple specialties and clients.

Quality initiatives, sourcing strategies and efficiencies pursuant to AGCO's Farmer First model and NPS aspirations. The Quality Inspector will prepare, perform and document all elements of materials testing inclusive of casting, forging, heat treat, machining, mechanical properties, certifications failure analysis for root causes for the purposes of part level PPAP / ISIR in the APQP process for part validation and approval for AGCO's serial production at its Global factories. The Quality Inspector will perform inspections on advanced level inspection equipment and many other forms of mechanical inspection that are aligned with the level of accuracy required by the part tolerance and critical characteristics. The incumbent will have deep operational skills and training on reputable industry equipment brands and models. The Quality Inspector will asses each part for the proper inspection criteria, perform the inspections and manage the final reports. Coupled with this is communication and collaboration between the supplier of the part and the inspection to manage and point for clarity, inspection concerns, inspection rejections relative to the metallurgical needs. Further, the Quality Inspector will need to collaborate with the AGCO factory Quality department of the intended serial part in the event there are application topics, clarity for inspection criteria or technical points that require validation. The Quality Inspector will need to operate in an environment that is focused on compliance to industry standards, facility competency, lab process flow, efficiency, safety and lab site communications between AGCO manufacturing locations. The position must effectively and efficiently collaborate globally with Regional Supplier Quality teams, Global Purchasing, Manufacturing as well as the varying elements of a Supplier / Supplier's Quality to attain the necessary quality and performance levels that fulfill AGCO's "Farmer First" vision. The incumbent requires a strong acumen and engagement with other Metrology Lab Inspectors and Metallurgist to operate effectively across functions, countries, and brands. The incumbent is expected to have proven experience in operating in an manufacturing industry with critical industrial parts in many forms or commodities and materials. **Job overview and responsibilities**
As a **Quality Engineer** , you will be responsible for delivering high-quality applications and system-specific projects and programs. This includes creating and executing test strategies, test plans, test cases, performing manual and automated testing, automation scripting, defect management, environment validation, performance testing, and leveraging AI-powered testing tools to improve quality and efficiency.
In this role, you will closely collaborate with application development teams, business stakeholders, and DevOps teams to ensure software products meet functional, non-functional, performance, security, and reliability standards through both traditional and AI-assisted testing approaches.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Perform Functional, Automation, Integration, API, Performance, and Regression Testing.
+ Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks using Java, Python, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, or similar technologies.
+ Leverage AI-powered testing tools (e.g., Copilot, GenAI-based test generation, self-healing automation frameworks) to improve test coverage, productivity, and maintenance.
+ Develop AI-assisted automation scripts and reusable testing utilities to accelerate testing cycles.
+ Collaborate with development teams in implementing Shift-Left testing and continuous testing practices within CI/CD pipelines.
+ Define and execute test strategies for cloud-native and microservices-based applications.
+ Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) and mentor junior QA engineers on automation, AI-enabled testing practices, and quality engineering methodologies.
+ Coordinate onsite-offshore QA activities and define strategies for test data modeling, provisioning, and synthetic test data generation.
+ Perform defect management, root cause analysis, and quality metrics reporting.
+ Develop testing accelerators, reusable frameworks, and AI-driven solutions to improve testing efficiency and reduce manual effort.
+ Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.

# Job Summary:
In this role, you will represent Bechtel as the supplier's project quality point of contact. You will perform quality surveillance and hands on inspections to verify that supplier equipment, material, documentation, and personnel activities conform to the requirements of procurement documents. You will work with supplier representatives to ensure requirements are understood and implemented.
# Major Responsibilities:
+ On a small sized project, represents Bechtel as the supplier's prime contact with respect to supplier quality and performs quality surveillance activities defined by the assignment scope to verify that supplier furnished equipment and material conforms to the technical and quality requirements of the procurement documents
+ Reviews the procurement document requirements with supplier representatives to ensure they are understood and implemented
+ Monitors supplier personnel activities including witnessing of operations, inspections, examinations, or tests to verify procurement document requirements have been met
+ Performs hands on inspections to verify by re-examination the efficacy of supplier inspection efforts and to provide assurance of the conformance of equipment or materials to procurement document requirements
+ Reviews supplier generated quality verification documentation to verify conformance to procurement document requirements
+ Rejects material found nonconforming and collaborates with the supplier and project supplier quality personnel to obtain a course of supplier action which facilitates satisfactory disposition of disclosed non-conformances
+ Releases conforming material for shipment and notifies other Bechtel functional organizations to assist in coordination of their activities
+ Evaluates supplier's conformance to specified quality criteria on a specific assignment or group of assignments to provide input to recommendations for placement of future orders
+ Conducts surveys or audits or surveys of suppliers, when assigned
+ Participates as an audit team member or technical resource for nuclear material and/or quality program audits
# Education and Experience Requirements:
+ Requires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience or 9-12 years of relevant work experience
# Required Knowledge and Skills:
+ Reviews material requisitions including technical specifications with respect to quality requirements and participates with Engineering in determining the levels of surveillance required and establishing witness and hold points.
+ Assists in the development of the final bid list and the selection of a recommended bidder
+ Assists with the establishment of Quality Surveillance levels required for each purchase
+ Participates in pre-award and post-award meetings/conferences with suppliers to review Area Supplier Quality's right of access, release for shipment authority, and notification on witness and hold points during quality surveillance activities
+ Prepares quality surveillance and capability survey assignments for execution by the assigned Area Supplier Quality Specialists
+ Investigate quality issues reported to the Supplier Quality Manager on equipment/materials where quality surveillance has been performed. Available documents such as UOS&Ds, Field Change Notices, back charge notices, NCR & Deviation Report registers, etc. should be utilized during the investigation process
+ Review, edit, accept and distribute reports in accordance with this Manual and Project Procedures. Ensure survey and audit reports are approved and then posted into GSIS
+ Regularly check anomaly code information and assignment information which has been siphoned from Quality Surveillance Reports into SQEAS is accurate and make any necessary corrections
+ Provide project direction to Supplier Quality Representatives that carry assignments for Project
