About the Role

The Materials & Corrosion Engineer is accountable for providing corrosion and materials engineering expertise and judgement in the service of the Refinery integrity teams and projects teams in support of engineering risk and the delivery of safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide corrosion and materials engineering expertise to refinery teams operations teams across P&O (production & operations) (Operations, Maintenance & Reliability, Projects Ops, Turnarounds) to manage corrosion and materials threats on equipment.

  • Ensure pragmatic solutions are identified and implemented to manage risk, production efficiency, defect elimination and standardization, to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant operations.

  • Support damage mechanism reviews (DMR) for new equipment and revalidations.  Review and carry out corrosion rate assessment and prepare corrosion management documentation.

  • Provide corrosion input to risk-based inspection (RBI) plans.

  • Review inspection results and make repair recommendations.

  • Review and endorse corrosion-related metrics (e.g. corrosion control matrices and LOPC (Loss of Primary Containment) data) and intervene where appropriate.

  • Provide corrosion and materials engineering support to incident investigations.

  • May be required to support Biofuel and Biofuel pretreatment.

People and business related:

  • Provide visible safety leadership in accordance with bp safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules and process safety fundamentals to model desired safety behaviors

  • Record relevant learning in shared learning systems, incorporate into local activities, specifications/ practices/ procedures and raise high priority lessons

  • Support performance management through implementation, measurement, and analysis of relevant KPI’s to drive continuous improvement. 


Education:

Must have education requirements:

  • Degree in Corrosion or Materials Engineering related discipline (e.g., chemical engineering, chemistry, mechanical engineering, civil engineering).

  • Post graduate certification in corrosion.

Must have certifications:

  • API 571 refinery damage mechanisms.

  • API 580/581 RBI.

Preferred education/certifications:

  • Professional accreditation e.g., Professional Engineer, Chartered Engineer (IOM3, IChemE, Institute of Corrosion).

  • Above ground storage tank inspection, inspection data analysis for corrosion rates, API 653 remaining life assessment and risk-based inspection plan development (will be beneficial).

  • Certification and/or  in-depth knowledge NACE Senior Corrosion Technologist, BSI ISO/ ENI AS Standards, AWS/ CSWIP/ ASNT NDT Techniques

  • Relevant field experience with pressure systems integrity engineering for O&G processing facilities.

What you will deliver

  • Provide subsea controls engineering expertise as the owner for the global subsea controls’ equipment condition supervising data and tools.
  • Lead in the delivery and maintenance of global digital tools to progress continuous improvement of subsea controls support (e.g. data gathering and data analysis, equipment dashboards, risk analysis tools, database management, data visualization, etc.).
  • Support global offshore production operations with identifying control system anomalies through a standard set of supervising tools and dashboards.
  • Prepare, review, and endorse controls-related, plans, procedures and metrics and intervene where appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain global equipment strategies for subsea controls equipment
  • Provide controls engineering support to annual integrity reviews, fit for service barrier evaluations and incident investigations.
  • Support regions to maintain the documents and data for the assigned subsea Equipment class.
  • Integrate with associated teams outside of subsea discipline to ensure adequate equipment care, including Instrumentation, controls and electrical (topside controls) engineering, reservoir engineering, mechanical, pressure integrity, production chemistry, and facility engineering.
  • Record relevant failures/learning in the shared learning systems, incorporate into reliability data reporting/global activities specifications/practices/procedures and share with controls community, call out high priority lessons.

Must have experience / skills (to be hired with):

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in control systems within operations; with a focus on diagnosing issues, risk assessment, engineering assessment, failure investigation, fitness for service, inspection and monitoring and repair.
  • Ability to review and understand electrical schematic and controls P&IDs.

The Senior Manager – Operational Excellence will be a strategic leader within the Business & Technology Center (BTC), responsible for driving end-to-end operational excellence and transformation initiatives. This role will be responsible for the development and implementation of process excellence strategies to optimize cost, enhance customer experience, and embed a culture of continuous improvement and would work closely with operational excellence leads in business teams, BTC Integration leads, C&P transformation leads to drive end to end value. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in operational transformation within centralized or shared service environments and possess deep knowledge of lean, six sigma, and digital enablement.

Key Accountabilities!

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement the Operational Excellence strategy for the BTC, with an end to end view of processes for the sub entities; aligned with business objectives.
  • Establish and maintain operational standards, critical metrics, and service levels (where relevant) to ensure high-quality performance from BTC teams
  • Identify and prioritize transformation opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance value creation.

Process Excellence & Optimization

  • Drive process mapping, reengineering, and standardization initiatives using Lean Six Sigma and other tried methodologies.
  • Build scalable, efficient, and effective strategies across capabilities (e.g., Customer Operations, Asset Management, Supply Chain, Sales Enablement etc.).
  • Work with process owners, operation excellence teams in business teams, BTC Integration leads to eliminate waste and automate repetitive, manual tasks through digital tools.

Performance Management & Governance

  • Design and implement performance dashboards, metrics, and reporting mechanisms to supervise performance of BTC.
  • Lead operational reviews, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Establish governance frameworks to ensure process compliance and continuous improvement.

Customer & Collaborator Engagement

  • Champion customer-centricity and ensure the voice of the customer is embedded in process design and service delivery.
  • Serve as a change agent to drive adoption and engagement across the BTC and business units.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure alignment of improvement initiatives with business needs.

  • Build and lead a high-performing Operational Excellence team.

Qualifications, Competencies & Capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field; MBA or relevant master’s degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of shown experience in operations, transformation, or process quality, with at least 3+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Tried experience in creating positive business impact in shared services, GCC (Global Capability Centres), or centralized service environments.
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification or equivalent required.
