About the role

What you will deliver

Field Related:

  • Develop RBI Methodology Documents, such as Management System and Technical Instructions consistent with industry standard processes and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement RBI programs in commercially available inspection data management systems (IDMS). Supervise their sustained health and lead self verification practices and critical metrics around it.
  • Perform risk analysis, updating RBI inspection plans, and ever greening the RBI analysis.

About the Role

Global Subsurface Solutions (GSS) delivers high-quality, high impact, subsurface technical products to address prioritized business challenges across bp’s oil, gas, and low carbon businesses.

As a Reservoir engineer you will be responsible for utilizing broad reservoir engineering experience to inform reserves estimation, resources progression and the appropriate reservoir management activities and/or Carbon storage plans are implemented.

You will have the opportunity to work across BP global portfolio on projects as diverse as early field development offshore West Africa, large-scale waterflood developments in the Caspian Sea and Middle East and global screening and development of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) fields. You will be responsible for supporting region decisions on reserves estimation, reservoir management, and production forecasting.

Responsibilities

Work closely with the regions across the globe, utilising broad classical reservoir engineering methods to properly analyse and integrate wells and reservoir data into the team’s current understanding.

  • Conduct classical reservoir engineering analyses, integrating rate and pressure transient analysis, material balance, decline curve and volumetric analyses into reservoir evaluation and reserves estimation

  • Provide sound Reservoir Engineering technical analysis, judgement, and guidance to support identification, evaluation, and progression of value-generating resources

  • Provide technical support and guidance in delivery of projects and progression of resources

  • Apply reservoir engineering concepts to understand and optimize the production and recovery, Including Rock and fluid properties, relative permeability, and depletion mechanisms

  • Promote hydrocarbon resources progression by assessing surveillance and analogue data, development activities and materiality, and working across multi-disciplines to provide input and justification for reserves/resources estimation and reporting, following company’s guidelines

Must have educational qualifications:

Bsc / Msc degree in Petroleum/ Reservoir Engineering or related applied science engineering
 

Must have experiences/skills:

  • Have a strong understanding of reservoir analysis fundamentals such as pressure transient analysis, decline curve analysis and material balance.

  • Good industry track record as Reservoir Engineer. Relevant classical reservoir engineering experience in Reservoir Management, Reservoir Performance, and Analytical Reservoir Engineering workflows.

These GSS squads typically consist of 5-10 multi-disciplinary technical members in several locations and are deployed based on global subsurface business prioritisation.

Responsibilities

Engineering Deliverables & Coordination:

  • Receive assignments from Lead TAR Engineers and access bp North Sea systems for required documentation and specifications.

  • Interface with TAR engineers, planners, inspection teams, SMEs, operations, and asset personnel.

  • Regularly update the TAR Engineering Deliverable Register (EDR) and communicate status with the Lead TAR Engineer.

Material Specifications & Procurement:

  • Develop Engineered Material Specifications, bid packages, and oversee specialty material selection.

  • Ensure compliance with refinery specifications, documentation, and the Management of Change (MOC) process.

  • Prepare bid packages and collaborate with procurement for vendor selection and budgetary estimates.

  • Evaluate vendor bids and make technical recommendations to the local refinery team

Heat Exchanger & Pressure Vessel Engineering:

  • Develop and validate HTRI models for heat exchanger design modifications.

  • Prepare engineering work packages for planned repairs and alterations of pressure vessels and exchangers.

  • Perform FEL engineering for planned repairs, including modifications like machine nubbins, gasket upgrades, and nozzle additions.

  • Conduct pressure vessel rerates and necessary calculations to support TAR work.

Piping Engineering & Analysis:

  • Identify and clarify specifications for piping, valves, gaskets, bolting, and materials.

  • Assist TAR planners in determining equivalent pipe specifications based on P&IDs, heritage specs, and North Sea standards.

  • Perform pipe stress analysis for complex piping changes or metallurgy upgrades to assess potential impacts.

  • Work with TAR planning and bp pipe surveying team (or equivalent) to obtain piping models for analysis.

Flanged Joint Torque & Assurance:

  • Utilize bp Asset 55 specific torque calculation tools for heat exchangers and specialty piping/equipment.

  • Develop critical torque summaries and review with the Lead TAR Engineer or Asset Senior Mechanical Engineer.

Management of Change (MOC) Participation:

  • Support MOC processes for engineering changes, including risk reviews and evaluations.

  • Ensure compliance while coordinating with local personnel for final implementation.

The Senior Mechanical and Pipeline Engineer – Site Projects will join the Site Projects organization within the bpTSI discipline engineering team to provide deep static mechanical engineering expertise, judgment and support to bp’s global portfolio of exciting projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer deployed to our Site Projects team, this role will drive project, technical and engineering delivery through our Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner’s by guiding, advising, reviewing and providing static mechanical and piping expertise and oversight to various project stakeholders. This role is based at the bp TSI Pune office but may also require contractor facing work at major engineering contractor offices intermittently.

What you will deliver

  • Provide mechanical and pipeline engineering expertise to P&O bp Solutions Site Projects teams

  • Support the Site Projects Team to deliver mechanical and pipeline engineering scopes in front-end loading stages (FEL) and Detailed Engineering of projects, including:

  • provide technical review, guidance and approval of design engineering and construction contractor deliverables

  • equipment specification and selection as well as engineering package technical content

  • Review of technical bid analysis of equipment

  • provide pipeline modelling, including hydraulics and pipe stress

  • provide technical evaluations of requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards

  • provide support during construction to ensure site technical queries, non-conformances, concession requests are properly resolved

  • provide development, oversight, assurance and planning of the system integrity management system

  • determine risks to project delivery and ensure adequate risk mitigation plans are in place

  • work with engineering contractor(s) to verify they are performing required activities in line with project schedules and assist bp’s Engineering Manager in contract performance management

  • Ensure that engineering contractor(s) apply bp’s Engineering Practices in engineering designs

  • Review of Vendor Quality Control Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, documents and drawings

  • Assist in preparation of factory acceptance test (FAT)

  • Provide mechanical and pipeline expertise, technical support and facilitate as necessary in hazard identification and risk assessment processes, such as HAZID, HAZOP, and LOPA

  • Exceptionally, support other engineers in the mechanical and rotating equipment discipline engineering team to deliver engineering expertise through mentoring, coaching and peer review

  • Coach earlier career engineers to aid in their technical and professional development

  • Provide visible safety leadership in accordance with bp safety leadership principles, lifesaving rules and process safety fundamentals to model desired safety culture and behaviors

  • Record relevant lessons learned in the bp shared learning system, escalate as necessary and incorporate into local activities, both in the discipline engineering community as well as the site projects teams; and follow through to drive incorporation into specifications, practices and procedures

  • Support performance management through implementation, measurement, and analysis of relevant KPI’s to drive continuous improvement
