Let me tell you about the role
The role is primarily focused on providing technical support on valves, piping and other static mechanical equipment to the Global Facilities Hardware Team. Ensure standardized specifications and requirements aligned with industry norms and key BP learnings are available, maintained and consistently applied.
This role includes working with projects and operations on the implementation of the standard valve specifications and datasheets and providing technical input on behalf of the Valve Global Product Team. Will provide support to projects with completing call offs and ensuring the right standardization activity is completed with respect to valves. It will also be required to support further improvement and development of the valve procurement strategy and associated technical and quality requirements.
The role also involves supporting investigations of valve problems, providing recommendations for improvements regarding valve selection, design, manufacture, fabrication, operation and maintenance and assess valve related anomalies when needed.
What you will deliver
• Support Projects and Operations with technical input to valve related issues, evaluation of valve packages and other piping material.
• Review of vendor documents.
• Engineering support to Projects throughout complete life cycle.
• Support GIS interpretation on valve design and procurement
• Provide advice in detailed design to review and match Project requirements with standardization agenda
• Ensure that engineering is undertaken with rigor
• Be proactive in identifying opportunities through the themes of Continuous Improvement and Discipline Excellence
• Participate with impact on key Engineering Design Reviews, Project HSSE Reviews, and HAZID/HAZOP reviews in discipline subject
• Participate in valve incident investigations

The Senior Mechanical Engineer – Site Projects will join the Site Projects organization within the bpTSI discipline engineering team to provide deep static mechanical engineering expertise, judgment and support to bp’s global portfolio of exciting projects. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer deployed to our Site Projects team, this role will drive project, technical and engineering delivery through our Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) partner’s by guiding, advising, reviewing and providing static mechanical and piping expertise and oversight to various project stakeholders. This role is based at the bp TSI Pune office but may also require contractor facing work at major engineering contractor offices intermittently.
What you will deliver
Provide static mechanical engineering expertise to P&O bp Solutions Site Projects teams through design and delivery of safe, cost effective, quality and competitive site projects.
Support the Site Projects Team to deliver static mechanical engineering, piping and valve scopes, including to:
provide technical review, guidance and approval of design engineering and construction contractor deliverables
equipment specification and selection as well as engineering package technical content
provide technical evaluations of requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards
work with engineering contractor(s) to verify they are performing required activities, and assist in contract performance management
determine risks to project delivery and ensure adequate risk mitigation plans are in place
provide mechanical expertise to project MoCs
assure quality and consistency in mechanical and rotating equipment/package delivery on projects
Record and share relevant learnings

Provision of mechanical engineering (ME) expertise and judgment in service of the global programs, operating facilities, brownfield site projects and assets, working closely with offshore and onshore facilities regional squads to ensure efficient resolution of all issues that require discipline engineering input. Ensure pragmatic solutions are implemented for management of risk, production efficiency improvement, maintenance, defect elimination and engineering standardization in support of safe, reliable and compliant operations
Intent
This role focuses on providing mechanical engineering support for Turnaround (TAR) projects at a bp North Sea. This includes developing engineering deliverables, ensuring adherence to specifications, conducting technical evaluations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to facilitate efficient TAR execution
Responsibilities
Engineering Deliverables & Coordination:
Receive assignments from Lead TAR Engineers and access bp North Sea systems for required documentation and specifications.
Interface with TAR engineers, planners, inspection teams, SMEs, operations, and asset personnel.
Regularly update the TAR Engineering Deliverable Register (EDR) and communicate status with the Lead TAR Engineer.
Material Specifications & Procurement:
Develop Engineered Material Specifications, bid packages, and oversee specialty material selection.
Ensure compliance with refinery specifications, documentation, and the Management of Change (MOC) process.
Prepare bid packages and collaborate with procurement for vendor selection and budgetary estimates.
Evaluate vendor bids and make technical recommendations to the local refinery team
Heat Exchanger & Pressure Vessel Engineering:
Develop and validate HTRI models for heat exchanger design modifications.
Prepare engineering work packages for planned repairs and alterations of pressure vessels and exchangers.
Perform FEL engineering for planned repairs, including modifications like machine nubbins, gasket upgrades, and nozzle additions.
Conduct pressure vessel rerates and necessary calculations to support TAR work.
Piping Engineering & Analysis:
Identify and clarify specifications for piping, valves, gaskets, bolting, and materials.
Assist TAR planners in determining equivalent pipe specifications based on P&IDs, heritage specs, and North Sea standards.
Perform pipe stress analysis for complex piping changes or metallurgy upgrades to assess potential impacts.
Work with TAR planning and bp pipe surveying team (or equivalent) to obtain piping models for analysis.
Flanged Joint Torque & Assurance:
Utilize bp Asset 55 specific torque calculation tools for heat exchangers and specialty piping/equipment.
Develop critical torque summaries and review with the Lead TAR Engineer or Asset Senior Mechanical Engineer.
Management of Change (MOC) Participation:
Support MOC processes for engineering changes, including risk reviews and evaluations.
Ensure compliance while coordinating with local personnel for final implementation.

Let me tell you about the role
The Mechanical Engineer serves as the primary point of contact for technical support of their assigned Asset(s). This includes troubleshooting emerging equipment issues and designing solutions for equipment repairs. The ME will collaborate with their asset team (maintenance and operations) and other engineering disciplines to support their area’s mechanical integrity and reliability needs.
What you will deliver
Proficient in industry standards and codes (ASME and API).
Design permanent and temporary repair solutions for equipment (piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, etc.) based on their appropriate industry standards and codes
Utilizes knowledge of corrosion damage mechanisms and modes of failure in design for reliable solutions
Applies reliability principles in making decisions for equipment repairs
Responsible for engineering deliverables such as:
Piping and pressure vessel design
Equipment fitness for service assessments
Field support for maintenance and operational troubleshooting
Supporting personal and process safety, including management of change
Support Asset maintenance to ensure accuracy in preventative maintenance planning and sparing strategies
Understand Asset equipment and processes to properly monitor unit health
Provide mechanical engineering and integrity input for Asset outages and Turnarounds

What you will need to be successful

Mechanical Engineering degree and relevant knowledge and experience to refinery equipment is preferred

Intent
This role focuses on providing mechanical engineering support for Turnaround (TAR) projects at a bp Refinery. This includes developing engineering deliverables, ensuring adherence to specifications, conducting technical evaluations, and collaborating with various stakeholders to facilitate efficient TAR execution
Responsibilities
Engineering Deliverables & Coordination:
Receive assignments from Lead TAR Engineers and access bp refinery systems for required documentation and specifications.
Interface with TAR engineers, planners, inspection teams, SMEs, operations, and asset personnel.
Regularly update the TAR Engineering Deliverable Register (EDR) and communicate status with the Lead TAR Engineer.
Material Specifications & Procurement:
Develop Engineered Material Specifications, bid packages, and oversee specialty material selection.
Ensure compliance with refinery specifications, documentation, and the Management of Change (MOC) process.
Prepare bid packages and collaborate with procurement for vendor selection and budgetary estimates.
Evaluate vendor bids and make technical recommendations to the local refinery team
Heat Exchanger & Pressure Vessel Engineering:
Develop and validate HTRI models for heat exchanger design modifications.
Prepare engineering work packages for planned repairs and alterations of pressure vessels and exchangers.
Perform FEL engineering for planned repairs, including modifications like machine nubbins, gasket upgrades, and nozzle additions.
Conduct pressure vessel rerates and necessary calculations to support TAR work.
Piping Engineering & Analysis:
Identify and clarify specifications for piping, valves, gaskets, bolting, and materials.
Assist TAR planners in determining equivalent pipe specifications based on P&IDs, heritage specs, and refinery standards.
Perform pipe stress analysis for complex piping changes or metallurgy upgrades to assess potential impacts.
Work with TAR planning and bp pipe surveying team (or equivalent) to obtain piping models for analysis.
Flanged Joint Torque & Assurance:
Utilize refinery-specific torque calculation tools for heat exchangers and specialty piping/equipment.
Develop critical torque summaries and review with the Lead TAR Engineer or Asset Senior Mechanical Engineer.
Management of Change (MOC) Participation:
Support MOC processes for engineering changes, including risk reviews and evaluations.
Ensure compliance while coordinating with local personnel for final implementation.

+ Design and integrate **standard interface protocols** such as **AHB, AXI, CHI** , and memory interfaces including **ROM, RAM, Flash, LPDDR/DDR3/4** .
+ Engage cross-functionally with **DFT, physical design, verification, emulation, and validation teams** to ensure first-time-right silicon and on-time project delivery.
+ Support **post-silicon debug, bring-up, and validation** , working closely with lab and silicon validation teams.
+ Continuously evaluate and adopt **new design methodologies** and best practices to **improve productivity** and **shift-left** the design cycle.
+ Mentor junior engineers, review their work, and provide technical leadership and guidance across multiple design projects. Provide overall leadership and tracking of the team's goals.
+ Contribute to the innovation quotient of the team via Desing Patents, Industry Standard Publications, AI-enabled design methodologies etc.
Qualifications
+ M.Tech/ B.Tech in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with 12+ years of RTL design experience.
+ Proven expertise in Verilog/SystemVerilog RTL design, integration, and microarchitecture.
+ Strong understanding of SoC architecture, AMBA protocols (AXI, AHB, APB), clock/power domains, and memory subsystems.
+ Experience with EDA tools for synthesis, lint, CDC, RDC, and timing analysis.
+ Familiarity with UPF/low-power design, formal verification techniques, and static/dynamic checks.
+ Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
+ Experience working with global cross-functional teams.
