Introduction
The responsibility by Line PC Teams for completeness and accuracy of the books and records comprises of:
- P&L and B/S substantiation and reporting (including P&L explain / attribution, reconciliations, P&L commentaries, adherence to accounting principles, etc.).
- Monitoring trading activity for compliance with various related policies.
- Providing management with technical and operational analysis of the business unit.
- Regular interaction with FO business, Financial Control, Technical Accounting Group, PC Change Management, Technology and other infrastructure areas.
What will you be doing?
Responsible for the line product control of an asset class, managing the line PC team to fulfil responsibilities below:
Daily Responsibilities:
- Review daily P&L, including understanding risk positions and market moves for P&L explanation, and review of flash vs formal differences.
- Engage in detailed discussion with traders and risk managers on risk positions and P&L.
- Ensure that the team’s KPI and SLA are met.
- Attend to ad hoc queries from the traders and other infrastructure partners relating to trading revenue and Balance Sheet.
Weekly / Monthly Responsibilities
- Review key weekly & monthly MIS to senior management.
- Gain in-depth understanding of provisioning and price testing controls and processes, and review the month end working.
- Engage in detailed discussion with traders, risk managers and Independent Valuation Control team on the results. Liaise with valuation expert on modelling appropriateness and other technical/booking issues.
- Perform detailed review of month end adjustments, and Balance Sheet substantiation
Controls
- Ensure the maintenance of a strong internal control environment. Monitor control reports to ensure accuracy of data for P&L, validation and downstream processes.
- Raise the team’s level of control awareness. Lead by example and engender a strong control culture.
- Ensure clean audit results from internal and external reviews. Be the owner of key stroke documentations for key PC processes, risk assessment and SOX documentation.
- Ensure adherence to and compliance with governance, risk policies, procedures and compliance policies.
Projects and Continuous Improvements
- Identify and drive process re-engineering and constantly challenge status quo for control improvement and process efficiency.
- Motivate and empower the team to deliver continuous improvements.

What we’re looking for:
- Qualified accountant (CA)
- CFA / Masters in Finance / Financial Engineering would be an advantage
- Product control experience in Investment bank for at least 4 years
Technical knowledge / skills:
- In-depth knowledge of Financial product and markets of the relevant asset class
- Good understanding of end-to-end processes of an IB and associated controls
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in both formal and informal settings & ability to interact with the region and London as part of a global team (written and verbal)

About Pearson Financial Services (PFS)
PFS is Pearson’s centre of excellence of all FP&A and financial control activity. We partner with the business, Finance business partners and group reporting to provide outstanding financial support and service.
The PFS Financial Reporting & Control team is responsible for the UK, North America and APAC month-end close activities, group reporting, audit, balance sheet and P&L control. The team is also responsible for end-to-end process control and, where necessary, process redesign and improvement across our UK and offshore teams.
About the role
Reporting to the Director Financial Control, the Senior Financial Control analyst will be responsible for:
Production of monthly and annual results for divisions, working closely with key divisional managers and finance teams
Own the review of all daily, weekly and monthly reporting to ensure that reports are accurate and relevant
Review work delivered by the BPO team
Review and approve journals ensuring they maintain relevant and appropriate back up and are correctly coded
Prepare ad-hoc analysis / production of reports as requested to support accurate reporting and support business, group, and tax decisions
Have significant interaction with business units, enabling functions, and auditors
Complete compliance reporting in accordance with local legislation.
Assist with SOX compliance, as required
Assist with Annual Desktop Procedure (DTP) review and write up for any new processes created or transitioned to BPO
Be involved in the delivery of ad-hoc continuous improvement projects and reporting requirements of the wider PFS Financial Reporting & Control team as required
Recognise issues, highlight them to relevant colleagues / line manager and take initiative to resolve
Identify opportunities for continuous process improvement and innovative solutions
Contribute to the maintenance of an effective system of internal controls including compliance with all internal and external requirements
Key requirements

Knowledge of FRS101 and IFRS
Core understanding and experience of financial control processes and functions
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with both finance and non-finance professionals
Ability to maintain a strong focus on results and outcomes and prioritise work effectively.
Advanced user of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel (v-lookups, sum-ifs, pivot tables, macros etc.)
Experience in using Finance ERP systems
