The Unified Communications Engineer plays a critical role in the configuration, optimization, and support of the organization’s voice and collaboration infrastructure, spanning cloud platforms (8x8, Fuze, Teams) and legacy systems (ShoreTel). This role requires hands-on expertise in VoIP routing, SIP, call flow design, and network interaction—especially in hybrid environments. Engineers work closely with network, security, and operations teams to ensure performance, availability, and security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineer and maintain hybrid communication systems including Direct Routing for Teams, 8x8/Fuze voice, and ShoreTel PBX.
  • Configure and troubleshoot SIP trunking, dial plans, call policies, and call routing logic across platforms.
  • Conduct packet captures and diagnose call quality issues using tools such as Wireshark and SBC logs.
  • Collaborate with network engineers to implement or fine-tune QoS, VLAN tagging, and DSCP marking for voice traffic.
  • Participate in system migrations from legacy PBX to UCaaS platforms.
  • Build and maintain SBC configurations (Ribbon, AudioCodes) for Teams Direct Routing or SIP trunk integration.
  • Enforce UC security policies including TLS/SRTP, encryption standards, and E911 compliance.
  • Required Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of UC or VoIP engineering experience in an enterprise environment.
  • Strong understanding of VoIP protocols (SIP, RTP, SRTP) and network concepts (QoS, TCP/IP, VLANs).
  • Experience with Microsoft Teams Voice, 8x8, Fuze, and ShoreTel Director/Connect.

    How will you contribute?

  • Responsible for developing and executing sales strategies to achieve assigned revenue targets and grow market share for Smarsh solutions within the channel partner ecosystem.
  • Sales and relationship lead for specific partners, responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships and establishing regular meeting cadence, check-ins with key partner stakeholders.
  • Identify and recruit new partners to expand market reach, create new business opportunities and grow pipeline & revenue opportunities for Smarsh.
  • Work with partner teams to create and execute sales go-to-market plans designed to generate customer leads and increase awareness of Smarsh customer value within partner sales teams.
  • Provide regular Smarsh product updates and training for partner sales and engineering teams, enabling them to stay up to date regarding latest innovations and solutions they can market.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including pre-sales, partner success, engineering and support to ensure successful partner on-boarding implementation of Smarsh solutions.
  • Represent Smarsh at industry events, tradeshows, and partner meetings to promote our solutions, build relationships and generate revenue opportunities.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to effectively position our solutions.
  • Provide regular updates and reports on sales activities, pipeline, and forecasts.
