Role Summary: The Senior Data Engineering Manager / Director will own the end-to-end data onboarding function within the SaaS platform for the self-storage industry. This leader is responsible for building and scaling the data engineering and migration frameworks that enable properties to move seamlessly from legacy PMS systems into Hummingbird. They will combine deep technical expertise, team leadership, and domain understanding of self-storage operations to ensure every migration is accurate, reliable, and customer-friendly. This role is both strategic (defining onboarding as a core platform capability) and operational (ensuring execution at scale across hundreds of properties). Key Responsibilities Data Onboarding Leadership ● Own the data migration pipeline from PMS → Hummingbird (extract, transform, validate, load). ● Define and enforce data quality, validation, and reconciliation standards (balances, leases, gate codes, autopay). ● Partner with Customer-facing onboarding teams, Product, Engineering and Sales teams to design repeatable onboarding playbooks for PMS migrations. ● Ensure migrations minimize operator disruption and preserve business continuity. Team Building & Management ● Lead and grow a team of Data Engineers, Migration Specialists, and QA Analysts. ● Build a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and customer empathy. ● Mentor senior engineers into tech leads and empower customer-facing onboarding staff with tools and automation. Technical Strategy & Execution ● Work closely with a Data Architect and own the data onboarding platform, including ETL/ELT frameworks, schema mapping templates, and automation. ● Drive automation-first approaches (reduce custom work per migration by building reusable tools for SiteLink, storEDGE, SSM, etc.). ● Establish monitoring, error handling, auditability, and rollback capabilities for safe cutovers. ● Collaborate with Infra/SRE teams to ensure migrations run securely and efficiently on AWS (RDS, Kinesis, Redis). Cross-Functional Partnership ● Work with Product to evolve Hummingbird’s data model to accommodate complex onboarding scenarios. ● Align with Product, Customer Success & Sales to scope migrations and set realistic expectations for customers. ● Partner with Compliance on data security, privacy, and regulatory obligations (PCI, SOC 2, GDPR). Required Skills & Experience ● Technical Expertise ○ 10+ years in data engineering with 5+ in leadership roles, managing teams building Data pipelines using a combination of ETL tools and public cloud platform(s). ○ Deep knowledge of ETL/ELT, data modeling, and migration frameworks. ○ Proficiency with SQL, Python/Node.js, and data pipeline tools (Airflow, dbt, Spark). ○ Hands-on experience with cloud-native data platforms (AWS RDS, Redshift/Snowflake, Kafka/Kinesis). ○ Experience in SaaS multi-tenant architectures and onboarding processes. ● Domain Knowledge (preferred) ○ Familiarity with Property Management Systems (PMS) or Proptech systems and data models used in real estate (leases, billing cycles, unit statuses, auctions). ● Leadership & Business Acumen ○ Proven ability to scale teams and manage delivery under time-critical conditions. ○ Strong communication skills with executives, engineers, and customer-facing teams. ○ Track record of transforming onboarding from a manual process into a repeatable productized capability KPIs / Success Metrics ● Onboarding efficiency: Time to migrate a property portfolio reduced by X%. ● Data quality: Error rates in post-migration audits (e.g., tenant balances, leases). ● Scalability: Number of properties migrated per quarter without proportional headcount increase. ● Customer satisfaction: Post-migration CSAT / NPS from operators. ● Operational impact: Reduction in support escalations related to onboardin
