An exciting opportunities for Sub-System Design Engineers have arisen to influence and shape the future of the Defence business in India. The roles involve working with business and external stakeholders to support the delivery of key programme milestones thus enabling the delivery of our Defence Combat strategy.
In this role, you will create innovative, world-class Fans, Compressors, Combustor, Turbines, Power Transmission, Structures or Externals designs that operate at the extremes of technology and deliver solutions that satisfy customer requirements by balancing product attributes. You will be working with multi-disciplinary teams and using design tools such as PLM (Product Lifecycle Management), CAD (NX) and DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis). Your solutions need to be cost-effective, align to project milestones and take into account the full product lifecycle (such as manufacture, assembly, operation, repair, test and disposal).

Role Overview:
This role is designed to interpret the customer’s technical enquiry and to design the most costeffective overall solution for an HVDC installation utilizing the PES power electronics solutions, aiming to minimize the total cost, and to specify the main (high-value) items of bought-out equipment. The successful candidate will be involved in the development and industrialization of solutions tools and processes and will have technical knowledge in the field of power system engineering (academic or professional).
The successful candidate will be part of an established team of experienced power systems engineers which will provide them with various opportunities to develop their skills in the field of high voltage AC and DC power system design via mentoring by Systems Experts, on-the-job training, classroom training (such as the HVDC university training modules), placement in other engineering departments etc.
Job Responsibilities
Main Circuit Design
Develop an integrated scheme design that meets the Customer’s needs, by developing requirements on the ratings and functionalities of the different HVDC system’s subsystems, in an optimised and cost-effective manner.
Insulation Coordination Studies
Determine the temporary and transient overvoltage stresses on HV equipment and provide the protective level requirements for the surge arresters.
Equipment Lifecycle Management
Manage the lifecycle of high economic value High Voltage equipment such as power transformers, instrument transformers, reactors, capacitors and surge arresters, covering the development of its requirements, specification, supplier management and the validation and verification (testing) of design, manufacturing and commissioning.
· Preparation of equipment technical specification
· Review of the supplier documents
Reliability, Availability and Maintainability Studies and Management
Create, verify and validate the reliability, availability and maintainability models for HVDC systems and subsystems, providing insight to customers and leaders and managing the risks, issues and opportunities that affect the systems throughout their lifecycle.
Losses Management
Create, verify and validate the electrical power losses models for HVDC systems and subsystems, providing insight to customers and leaders and managing the risks, issues and opportunities that affect the systems throughout their lifecycle.
Quality
Enforce engineering discipline and set processes across all work tasks and adherence to company policies, quality procedures and work instructions (, through training, technical reviews).
Health and Safety
Actively and routinely promote the identification of hazards and EHS risks in own area of operation and objects of design. Provide insight to leaders, customers and colleagues with respect to own safety and systems and product integrity.
