We are seeking a talented individual to join our Data Management team at Wealth Investments Mercer. This role will be based in Mumbai. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.

Director - Data Management

We are looking for a dynamic and entrepreneurial leader to establish and lead a brand-new Data Team with a significant mandate to support our business in all critical processes. This role is ideal for a visionary with a tech-first mindset who can blend people, process, and technology to deliver high-impact, pragmatic solutions that directly drive business value. The position will partner closely with the Global Head of Data and the Global Data Team and business stakeholders, enabling day-to-day operational excellence while innovating to meet evolving needs.

The ideal candidate will think and act like a business owner—focusing on ROI, mitigating risks, and ensuring value delivery. They will have deep expertise in the Investment Domain and a proven track record in managing data analysts, implementing robust data management practices, and delivering creative solutions that scale

Strategic Leadership

  • Establish and lead a high-performing Data Team from the ground up, instilling a culture of accountability and excellence.

  • Solution Delivery

  • Design and deliver pragmatic, scalable solutions leveraging a balanced mix of people, processes, and technology.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to build both tactical and strategic solutions—ranging from quick-win tools to enterprise-scale platforms.
  • Oversee data pipelines, sourcing, and management for investment advisory and OCIO business areas, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality data delivery.
  • Introduce and oversee a lightweight development capability to quickly design and deploy targeted end-user solutions, using low-code, no-code, and scripting tools.
  • Data Management Excellence

  • Design, implement, and mature core data management practices across governance, quality, lineage, metadata, and stewardship.
  • Establish policies, standards, and controls to ensure data is accurate, consistent, and fit for purpose across the investment lifecycle.
  • Implement data quality monitoring and remediation processes, ensuring issues are proactively identified and addressed.
  • Business Partnership & Communication

  • Act as the voice of the data team, effectively communicating the team’s value and impact to business leaders.
  • Present data-driven recommendations to influence strategic decisions
  • What you need to have: 

  • 12+ years of experience in Information Systems Management, or a related discipline with a focus on domain i.e. Investment Banking/Asset Management (Middle Office/Back office).
  • Familiarity with designing data models and defining data architecture schema for Investment Banking or Asset Management purposes.
  • Proficiency in data processing and working with data warehouse/big data environments relevant to Investment Banking or Asset Management.
  • Excellent skillset in Reference Database Management System (RDBMS) to ingest, maintain and distribute data for Equity, Fixed Income, Alternatives and other Asset Classes.
  • Proficiency identifying process flow mapping and process redesigning specifically for Investment Banking or Asset Management data.
  • Proficiency in project management tools such as Jira Kanban and Confluence or similar tool is plus.
  • Experience in business process improvement, including conducting data investigations to determine the root cause of data issues.
  • Familiarity with ETL tools for efficiently and accurately importing new data from various external/internal sources, as well as data sourcing and data mapping specifically to Investment data.
  • Good analytical and technical abilities as the role would involve ability to spot anomalies and create processes to put control on them.
  • Good communication skills to ensure issues clearly identified and explained to various interested stakeholders.

    Profile Description

    • The Investment Compliance’ assigned tasks are complex at times, and those tasks are unique/distinct in nature. Individuals on the team are expected to possess strong analysis skills and are expected to perform with minimum supervision in that our production cycle is time sensitive and individuals on the team are expected to trouble shoot problems and provide recommendation for permanent and timely resolutions.

    • Voya IM is seeking motivated individuals to support the Investment Compliance team function. The operation focus among other things is to check investment policy restriction on BlackRock Aladdin, as there are a lot of analytics and reconciliations. Analysis would be medium to easy complexity however having eye to detail is imperative. The candidate for the position must have the ability to keep pace with a rapidly changing business environment. Success in this role requires a strong analytical mindset, the ability to understand the dynamics of operation and a willingness to work in a collaborative team setting.


    Roles and responsibilities

    • Understand investment compliance process, which requires checking investment restrictions against fund’s exposure.

    • Ability to read fund prospectus, investment policy and investment policy statement and extract applicable investment restrictions from it.

    • This role will require understanding the existing coded rules on BlackRock Aladdin platform, amending these rules to correct them and coding new rules with testing to make sure they give correct result.

    • An eye for detail to understand different exposure calculations, to identify any miscalculation or deficiency in approach to ensure accurate and timely compliance report.

    • Routine review of exiting client’s investment guidelines, change in investment policies and implementing those changes in our compliance master (Aladdin).

    • Investigative and research-oriented mindset to identify the reasons for a valid breach and rule out invalid breach to ensure accurate delivery.

    • Excellent team interaction and people skills (verbal and writing skills) – as this individual will interact with many distinct parts and levels of the VOYA organization (peers, supervisors, project leaders, and internal/external clients.)

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Someone who understands asset class hierarchy, their characteristics, their exposure calculation methods would be a requirement in this role.

    The Impact:

    • • Analyze data related to Investment Management operations including Security Masters, Securities Trade and Recon Operations, Reference data management, Pricing to generate actionable insights.
    • • Develop and maintain comprehensive data mapping documents and work closely with data engineering teams to ensure accurate data integration and transformation.
    • • Partner with Business Analysts, Architects and Data engineers to validate datasets, optimize queries and perform reconciliation.
    • • Support the design and delivery of Investment data and reporting solutions, including data pipelines, reporting dashboards.
    • • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Data Architects, and BI developers to ensure design and development of scalable data solutions aligning with business goals.
    • • Manage and oversee investment data, ensuring its accuracy, consistency, and completeness.


    The Minimum Qualifications

    Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. Experience:

    • 7-9 years of experience as a Data Analyst or similar role supporting data analytics projects. • 5+ years of Mastery in SQL.

    • 5+ years of experience in financial services, insurance, or related industry.

    • Experience with data manipulation using Python.

    • Domain knowledge of Investment Management operations including Security Masters, Securities Trade and Recon Operations, Reference data management, Pricing.

    • Investment Operations exposure - Critical Data Elements (CDE), data traps and other data recons. • Familiarity with data engineering concepts: ETL/ELT, data lakes, data warehouses.

    • Experience with BI tools like Power BI, MicroStrategy, Tableau.

    • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

    • Experience in Agile/Scrum and working with cross-functional delivery teams.

    • Proficiency in financial reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau).


    The Ideal Qualifications Technical Skills:

    • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and compliance standards in the investment management industry.

    • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.

    • Hands-on experience with IBOR’s such as Blackrock Alladin, CRD, Eagle STAR (ABOR), Eagle Pace, and Eagle DataMart.

    • Familiarity with investment data platforms such as GoldenSource, FINBOURNE, NeoXam, RIMES, and JPM Fusion.

    • Experience with cloud data platforms like Snowflake and Databricks.

    • Background in data governance, metadata management, and data lineage frameworks.

    • The Investment Compliance’ assigned tasks are complex at times, and those tasks are unique/distinct in nature. Individuals on the team are expected to possess strong analysis skills and are expected to perform with minimum supervision in that our production cycle is time sensitive and individuals on the team are expected to trouble shoot problems and provide recommendation for permanent and timely resolutions.

    • Voya IM is seeking motivated individuals to support the Investment Compliance team function. The operation focus among other things is to check investment policy restriction on BlackRock Aladdin, as there are a lot of analytics and reconciliations. Analysis would be medium to easy complexity however having eye to detail is imperative. The candidate for the position must have the ability to keep pace with a rapidly changing business environment. Success in this role requires a strong analytical mindset, the ability to understand the dynamics of operation and a willingness to work in a collaborative team setting.

    Roles and responsibilities

    • Understand investment compliance process, which requires checking investment restrictions against fund’s exposure.

    • Ability to read fund prospectus, investment policy and investment policy statement and extract applicable investment restrictions from it.

    • This role will require understanding the existing coded rules on BlackRock Aladdin platform, amending these rules to correct them and coding new rules with testing to make sure they give correct result.

    • An eye for detail to understand different exposure calculations, to identify any miscalculation or deficiency in approach to ensure accurate and timely compliance report.

    • Routine review of exiting client’s investment guidelines, change in investment policies and implementing those changes in our compliance master (Aladdin).

    • Investigative and research-oriented mindset to identify the reasons for a valid breach and rule out invalid breach to ensure accurate delivery.

    • Excellent team interaction and people skills (verbal and writing skills) – as this individual will interact with many distinct parts and levels of the VOYA organization (peers, supervisors, project leaders, and internal/external clients.)

    • Promote a cheerful outlook and working environment among fellow employees and develop efficient working relationships.

    • Adaptable to working in an ever-changing multi-tasked environment with high priorities, varying workloads, and multiple deadlines.

    Knowledge and Experience

    • Undergraduate degree in accounting, finance, quantitative analysis, business administration or equivalent work experience

    • 5 to 8 years of investment Industry experience with basic understanding of investment vehicles (Fixed Income Securities, Derivatives, Equities and Senior Loans).

    • A good understanding of Alladin rule coding platform is a must. Rule coding experience with Aladdin is an added advantage.

    • Prior knowledge of regulatory rules around 1940 Act and UCITS would help in this role.

    • Someone who understands asset class hierarchy, their characteristics, their exposure calculation methods would be a requirement in this role.

    • Familiarity with various platforms and systems (e.g., Bloomberg, Aladdin, PowerBI).

    • Strong knowledge of Microsoft platforms is expected (e.g., MS Office, Excel, Word, Windows, etc.) and other PC based software.

    • Particularly good organizational, analytical, and quantitative skills.

    • Ability to work in a challenging environment as we may have varying workloads and strict deadlines (e.g., month, quarter, and year-end).

    • Ability to resolve problems utilizing appropriate resources independently and creatively.

    • Maintain strong working relationships with peers, supervisors, project leaders, and internal/external clients.

    • Excellent team interaction and people skills (verbal and writing skills).
