The Process Safety Engineer provides support to Site Projects to help ensure compliance with applicable regulations and help manage and reduce process safety risk. The Process Safety Engineer will be actively involved with regulatory required process hazard analysis and management of change activities to help ensure risks are identified and managed.

Provision of deep process safety engineering expertise and judgment in service of the assets, working closely with Site Projects Engineering Managers to ensure efficient handover of all issues that require engineering input to resolve. Ensure pragmatic solutions are implemented for management of risk, production efficiency improvement, maintenance, defect elimination and engineering standardization in support of safe, reliable and compliant operations.

What you will deliver

• Provides process safety expertise to other teams by performing and reviewing complex, or non-routine process safety engineering calculations and analysis including dispersion modelling

• Support development of Process Design Basis / Project Safety Philosophies

• Provides process safety expertise to MoCs, brownfield projects and modifications, hazard identification and risk assessment processes

• Collaborates seamlessly to review deliverables from external contractors and vendors to meet project baseline and bp requirements.

• Provides process safety expertise to delivery of regional projects and leads on resolution of complex, multi-discipline technical issues where the dominant component is process or process safety related

• Records relevant learnings in shared learning systems, incorporates into local activities and escalates high priority lessons

• Ensures compliance and audit requirements are met for all responsible activities.

What you will need to be successful

Must have educational qualifications:

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent

Role Synopsis: The Remote Unit Health Process Engineer role creates and delivers monthly process unit health monitoring reports (including findings and recommended actions) to the technical teams within bp’s refineries. This role is part of a global distributed team and supports bp’s worldwide refining portfolio. This role will need to work closely with unit engineers based in refinery support teams, as well as technology subject matter experts, around the world. The successful candidate will therefore need to be self-motivated to perform within the geographically dispersed team.

Key Accountabilities: This role is also seen as a technical lead within the Refining Performance Unit Health Monitoring Squad Aiding in the initial roll-out of UHM reports for various refining technologies, implementing discipline delivered content into Palantir and engaging with our technical refining SMEs

• Developing enhanced monitoring tools to capture additional value from our assets

• Completing monthly unit health monitoring reports for multiple refining units

• Driving Monthly Unit Health monitoring work process, including leading handover meetings/discussions

• Working with AIMS Support Engineer to update AIMS tool as required based on updates to standard processes, unit findings, etc.

• Essential Education: Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering (or equivalent) Essential Experience and Job Requirements: Strong refining technology background is required. Very good understanding of one or more refining unit operations and process calculations, including heat exchanger principles, distillation principles, fluid flow principles, and reaction principles. 5+ Years of experience,

• Previous experience providing process engineering monitoring of refinery process units, including on-site experience.

• The successful applicant must be meticulous and be able to keep multiple tasks moving simultaneously.

• Must have good technical communication skills. This includes ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with unit engineers and squad members to understand their issues and problems and communicate solutions.

• Strong customer focus—understanding the needs of our customers and delivering solutions based on those needs. Experience supporting the success of other teams.

Let me tell you about the role

The Senior Process Safety Engineer will join the Projects India organisation in the engineering and quality team to provide engineering expertise, oversight, judgment and support to Production & Operations (P&O) Projects.

The role is based at the Pune office but will require significant contractor facing work at major engineering contractor office locations in both India and possibly ex-India.

What you will deliver

• Support the development of the technical scope of project options to ensure selection and progression of safe, competitive and robust projects

• Be responsible for Process Safety engineering activity on the projects in support of an Inherently Safer Design (ISD) and application of specific safety features developed during the project phases

• Provide technical guidance and advice to the Project team; support technical and engineering scope development and decision making with process safety impacts

• Develop and implement Process Safety Philosophy for projects in cooperation with the contractors

• Develop and implement the Design Hazard Management Plan for projects

• Manage the delivery of Process Safety deliverables; provide verification of key process safety deliverables by engineering contractors in terms of quality and conformance with project requirements; provide oversight of performance of contractor for process safety scope

• Prescribe appropriate BP approved design methods and procedures, support preparation and participate in key areas such as HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID and environmental reviews where necessary; assist project teams in application

The Process Engineer will join the bpTSI discipline engineering team to provide process engineering expertise, oversight, judgment and support to the Production & Operations (P&O) bp Solutions (bpS) Site Projects Team.

• Provide process engineering expertise to P&O bp Solutions Site Projects teams

• Deliver, support, review, approve and assure technical deliverables in service of site projects, across all phases of project execution

• Support the Site Projects Team and Engineering Contractor(s) to deliver engineering scopes, including to:

• provide technical oversight, review, guidance and approval of design engineering and construction contractor deliverables

• contribute to development of design documents including Statements of Requirements (SOR) and Basis of Design (BOD), as well as engineering design philosophies and strategies

• work with engineering contractors during specification, tender, selection, purchase, installation and commissioning of process equipment to provide bp technical integrity assurance

• provide technical evaluations of requests for exceptions/deviations to specifications or standards

• Participate as an active contributor in P&ID reviews and incorporate Operational requirements in P&ID’s

**Roles & Responsibilities**
+ Partner with PD scientists and IT team members to develop and implement data engineering solutions that deliver high-quality, contextualized datasets as part of an agile team.
+ Define data requirements, gather and mine large scale structured and unstructured data, and validate data by running various data tools in the Big Data Environment to enable use case development.
+ Collaborate with scientists and engineers to identify data sources and locations, understand data requirements and challenges, and provide data solutions.
+ Collaborate proactively with IT teams to develop and enhance data infrastructure, data pipelines, and analytical tools for efficient data collection, processing, and analysis.
+ Lead the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of emerging tools and processes for analytic data engineering in order to improve productivity.
+ Communicate and translate between life science experts and data engineers.
+ Provide training, guidance, and mentorship to junior analysts and team members when required.
+ Work hours that provide sufficient overlap with standard east coast US working hours.
**Skills and Competencies**
+ Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, team-building, and communication skills to ensure effective collaborations within matrix teams.
+ Ability to work with diverse teams across organizational lines and structures.
+ Proven ability to explain complex analyses and outcomes to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
**Experience**
+ Bachelor's or Master's degree in analytical, engineering, or in a relevant field such as chemical engineering, or life sciences, with an interest or minor in data science/computer science.
+ Proven experience (typically 3-5 years) in a data and analytics role, including direct development experience.
+ Experience working with large datasets, data visualization tools, statistical software packages and platforms (specifically R, Python, advanced SQL, Domino, AWS, GitHub, dbt, Tableau).
+ Experience with biotech product development and/or manufacturing operations is a significant plus.
+ Experience in the biopharma industry a plus.
