PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE POSITION
The Psychologist/ Clinical Psychologist’s purpose is to work within the Cultural Safety & Wellbeing team to provide high level clinical consultations and therapeutic support to individuals and families to address mental health and wellbeing needs by:
- Providing psychological services and therapeutic support to individuals and groups, including to children, young people, and families.
- Conduct Psychological Assessments for clients of GAC.
- Provide clinical advice to GAC staff and managers about ethical and effective ways to address the mental health and wellbeing needs of clients.
- Contribute to the design, development, and evaluation of the GAC’s mental health and psychological programs and services.
The Cultural Safety & Wellbeing Team provides multidisciplinary case management and support to Aboriginal people residing in the South West of Victoria Aboriginal Communities as part of an integrated service response.
THE IDEAL PERSON FOR THIS ROLE
Essential
- Degree in Clinical Psychology including full registration with AHPRA and the Australian Psychological Society.
- Demonstrated advanced practice skills and an ability to undertake Psychological testing and assessments covering a broad range of presentations.
- Knowledge and ability to use evidenced based psychometric assessment tools, including the capacity to provide psycho-educational and therapeutic group programs to parents, children, and family groups.
- Ability to develop and implement treatment and recovery plans for individuals, groups, and families.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and computer proficiency, including the ability to use client information management systems.
- Capacity to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrate accountability and willingness to take direction and provide written reports.
- Experience working with Aboriginals, providing practical and culturally safe advice and encouragement.
- Sound knowledge of Cultural Safety in practice and a willingness to learn.
- Understanding and commitment to Aboriginal health, Aboriginal culture, and the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control.
- Current, valid Victorian driver’s licence.
Desirable
- Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology including full registration with AHPRA and the Australian Psychological Society.
- Direct experience in delivering Psychological or related services in Aboriginal and/ or Torres Strait Islander Communities.
- Proven clinical leadership skills with expertise in client centred consultancy and ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the utilisation of evidence-based research.
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
