As a result of expanding scope of works within UGL’s portfolio, we are seeking to recruit a Trades Assistant to join our Operations & Maintenance team at the Tindal RAAF Base in the Nothern Territory.
This would be an exciting and unique opportunity to work in the Australia Defence environment to support the security requirements of the Nation. Benefit from the opportunity to work with a Tier 1 services provider in a long-term, operations and maintenance contract.
The Role
Reporting to a Maintenance Supervisor, you will be based at Tindal RAAF Base, supporting surrounding locations with occasional regional travel. You will be a part of a core crew of UGL technicians.
These duties will include, but not limited to;
- Assist the team with scheduled maintenance and service of fuel installation assets and equipment
- Assist with project work as required on the fuel installation and related assets and equipment
- Support subcontracted work packages as required
- Support various sites in the region, with occasional requirement to travel to various sites throughout NT
- General administration & ad hoc duties as required
What you Need
You will be a strong team player, a self-starter and dedicated employee that will draw on your experience and diverse skills to deliver high quality outcomes for UGL and our customer. We expect the successful applicants to have the following
- Previous labouring or trade (mechanical) experience highly regarded
- Previous experience working in fixed plant maintenance, ideally fuel services or Oil & Gas would be advantageous, not essential.
- Defence fuels network or defence industry experience will be highly regarded
- Confined space and working at heights tickets will be highly regarded
- Safety is at the forefront of everything you do!
- Currently hold, or ability to obtain appropriate Defence Security Clearance
- Savvy IT / computer skills

The scope of the project includes upgrading the facility's sludge treatment processing system. This will enable the recovery of biosolids for agricultural use. The solid material, known as biosolids, will be used as a soil conditioner. Another by-product of the sludge treatment process is biogas, which can be used as a source of energy.

About the role

Your expertise in engaging with stakeholders both internal and external and building strong relationships, will contribute greatly towards the successful delivery of water, wastewater and drainage services across Perth.
Reporting directly to the Manager Trades & Incident Management, your primary responsibilities will be to provide effective Leadership ensuring the safe execution of planned electrical and mechanical maintenance, unplanned reactive repair and incident response as it pertains to pump station assets and associated network infrastructure.
Our primary focus is on safe operations, and you will be expected to drive and improve our work safe, act safe culture both within your team and with our contractors.
This role is part of the Perth Region Field Services Service Delivery Management Team and participation in a rolling after hours Incident Management roster is an inherent requirement.
Key skills and experience
Leadership experience with strong people management skills
Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
