Lady Andal House of Children (LAHOC) is an established special school in Chennai, founded by The Madras Seva Sadan, a renowned institution with a long-standing and respected legacy in education. Centrally located on a scenic campus, LAHOC is dedicated to providing special education and vocational training for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

The school offers pre-vocational and vocational training programmes, including the NIOS curriculum, and is supported by a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals providing physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy.

Who are we looking for

We are looking for a skilled Music Teacher who is passionate about supporting diverse learners and fostering inclusive education. The ideal candidate must have expertise in designing and implementing music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or

emotional/behavioural challenges. The candidate should have training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices and have experience with communication aids. A person with strong interpersonal skills, along with patience, creativity, and a

positive attitude, is our ideal candidate. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Plan and Deliver Lessons: Design and implement music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
• Use Adaptive Techniques: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
• Encourage Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
• Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
• Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).
• Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with the school’s positive behaviour support policies.
• Enrichment and Events: Organise performances, music therapy sessions, and school-wide musical events to showcase students’ abilities.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or Master's or P.G Diploma in Carnatic/Hindustani Music, Certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred)
• 3 to 7 years of working with children in a mainstream school/ Special school
• Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
• Experience working with children with special educational needs (Preferred)
• Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
• Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing 
• Must know Light songs and Bhajans in Tamil
• Knowledge of Tamil language is mandatory
• Training in music therapy or knowledge of therapeutic music practices
• Experience with communication aids
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Patience, creativity, and a positive attitude

Role Overview

We are looking for dedicated Music Teachers across multiple specializations. Each position is individual and independent you will focus on your area of expertise while being part of a collaborative, creative team.

Open Roles:

• Keyboard Teacher

• Guitar Teacher

• Carnatic Vocal Teacher

• Other Instrument Teachers (Violin, Drums, Flute, etc.) – open to applications!

Key Responsibilities (for each role):

• Conduct engaging, structured classes for students (group and/or individual).

• Prepare lesson plans and guide students through graded progress.

• Inspire students to perform, participate in events, and enjoy their musical journey.

• Maintain a positive, encouraging, and professional classroom environment.

Requirements:

• Proficiency and formal training in your instrument/vocal style.

• Prior teaching experience preferred (but not mandatory if you’re passionate and skilled).

• Strong communication skills and patience with children.

• Ability to commit to regular classes (part-time or full-time options available).
