Role Overview
Packt is hiring a graduate workflow automation engineer to accelerate adoption of autonomous, agent‑driven processes across every business vertical. By building intelligent AI agents you will free teams to focus on high‑value creative tasks while maintaining responsible, secure and ethical use of large language models. You will collaborate with content, product, marketing and technology stakeholders, owning projects end to end – from discovery through deployment and continuous optimization. Success will be measured by time saved, accuracy gains and user satisfaction scores achieved by your automations.
What You Will Do
• Develop AI‑powered solutions: Design, build, and deploy agents using agentic workflows and LLM APIs to automate and enhance Packt business processes.
• Collaborate with Vertical teams: Partner with Verticals to map processes, surface bottlenecks and deliver tailored AI solutions.
• Develop cross-business perspective: Spend rotation weeks shadowing multiple verticals and roles to ensure agents solve company-wide, not siloed, problems.
• Integrate with existing systems: Connect agents to core platforms such as the CRM, CMS, e‑commerce site, and BI dashboards through robust API integrations and scripting.
• Ensure security, compliance, and responsible AI: Work with the Tech Team to uphold data privacy standards, monitor models for bias and document mitigation strategies.
• Technical problem solving: Debug agent behaviour, profile performance and deliver scalable, fault tolerant solutions alongside the Tech Team.
• Continuous improvement: Track metrics, gather feedback, and iteratively refine prompts, memory, and tool chains to maximize impact.
• Documentation and training: Create clear documentation and training material for fellow Packt employees on effective agent use
Career progression opportunities
• Technical leadership path: Advance into Developer (Platforms team) or Data Analyst roles.
• Cross-functional path: Transition into product management and acquisition (relationship lead), marketing and sales enablement (growth lead) or editorial automation (content engineer), applying your AI expertise to drive innovation. Packt is committed to continuous professional development, helping you turn curiosity into career defining impact
Who You Are
The work we do is fast-paced, demanding, and intellectually challenging. We are looking for dynamic candidates with an interest in technology and in helping tech professionals to learn. You will need strong oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and excellent organization and time-management skills. You will need to be proactive in troubleshooting and problem-solving, upbeat, enthusiastic, and motivated. You will be a demonstrated self-starter who is focused and calm under pressure.
• Education : Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or a related field.
• Technical skills : Proficiency in Python plus familiarity with AI frameworks, RESTful APIs, and automation scripting. Experience with LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI API), chatbot prototyping, Power Automate, LangChain, or similar tools is advantageous.
• Practical exposure : Relevant internship, capstone, or hackathon projects that demonstrate building AI, data or automation solutions will count as experience.
• Domain curiosity: Ability to quickly learn how different business functions operate and to propose fit for purpose AI automations.
• Problem solving and drive: Strong analytical skills, a bias for experimentation and a commitment to staying current with AI advances.
• Communication and collaboration: Understand the pain points of each role talking to people. Translate technical concepts to non-technical peers; gather requirements and run training sessions.
• Adaptability and time management: Juggle multiple mini-projects, iterate fast, and thrive amid evolving AI toolchains.
• Ethical and responsible AI mindset : Proactively consider data privacy, bias mitigation, and compliance when designing agents or liaise with the Tech Team to create the right AI solutions.
• Growth mindset: Stay current with LLM/agent advances, experiment with new frameworks, and share learnings across the organization.
• Able to work autonomously and take the initiative: Involves proactively managing tasks, solving problems independently, and driving projects forward without needing constant supervision.
• Critical thinking: Involves the ability to analyse information objectively, evaluate various solutions, and make well-informed decisions to solve problems effectively.
• Teamwork and collaboration: Ability to work effectively with others, sharing ideas, supporting colleagues, and contributing to group efforts to achieve common goals.
• Creativity and innovation: Ability to generate original ideas and develop new solutions that enhance processes, products, or services
