Role Overview:
We are looking for a Lead Aerospace Design Engineer to take technical ownership of UAV airframe design and provide hands-on leadership to the aerospace and composite manufacturing teams . The ideal candidate should have strong fundamentals in aerospace design, in-depth experience working with fixed-wing and VTOL UAVs .
This is a core technical role , requiring both system-level design capabilities and practical involvement in composite prototyping and production.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the aerospace design team in conceptualizing, modeling, and validating UAV airframes.
- Own the full design cycle: configuration layout, aerodynamic shaping, structural sizing, and systems integration.
- Provide technical guidance to the composite manufacturing team for tooling design, layup strategies, curing, and assembly.
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.
- Perform CFD simulations to validate aerodynamic performance and optimize airflow characteristics.
- Collaborate with propulsion, avionics, flight control, and structural analysis teams to ensure full system integration.
- Support manufacturing through DFM (design for manufacturability) and material selection for lightweight, high-strength structures.
- Review prototype builds, resolve design/fabrication issues, and iterate quickly based on testing and feedback.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in aircraft or UAV design and development.
- Strong knowledge of aerodynamics, flight mechanics, structural analysis, and propulsion integration.
- Experience designing both fixed-wing and VTOL UAVs
- Experience in conceptualizing, developing, and optimizing aircraft systems and components to meet specific performance, safety, and economic requirements
- Proficiency in CAD tools: SolidWorks.
- Proficiency in CFD tools: ANSYS Fluent/OpenFOAM
- Familiar with structural design best practices, load path management, and material optimization.
- Data Processing: MATLAB and Python.
