Job Description
Who we are:
Nirvana is on a mission to harness the power of data to revolutionize commercial insurance and enable a safer world. We are bringing much-needed innovation into the legacy, trillion-dollar commercial insurance industry. We have developed cutting-edge predictive models that use real-time IoT data from billions of connected devices, allowing us to better understand and price risk. Our AI-driven platform fundamentally changes the way an insurance company operates with personalized risk scoring, faster underwriting, modernized claims, and proactive, data-driven insights to help customers prevent accidents.
We’ve already proven the scale—reaching well over $100 million in premiums and more than doubling year over year. Our data moat is growing exponentially with more than 20 billion miles of telematics data, leading to more predictive models and new insights into how we can better understand and reduce risk. Altogether, our loss ratio, efficiency, and customer experience are redefining what can be done in the industry.
With $170+ million raised, including an industry-leading Series C round in January 2025, we’re only accelerating our growth, with strong support from top-tier VCs including Lightspeed, General Catalyst, and Valor. Nirvana’s leadership team has previously helped scale multi-billion-dollar companies from scratch, including Samsara, Rubrik, and Flexport, and includes industry veterans from Hiscox, The Hartford, and RLI.
About the role:
The Central Data team at Nirvana is the company’s analytics hub, powering data-driven decisions that drive growth and efficiency. As the Analytics Lead, you will manage a high-performing team to deliver actionable insights, build scalable dashboards, and develop frameworks that directly impact loss ratios, topline growth, and operational excellence.
You’ll work with some of the largest and most unique datasets in commercial insurance—GPS and sensor data from connected fleets, safety events like harsh braking or distracted driving, and decades of inspection, crash, and violation records. By collaborating with ML, data engineering, and insurance teams, you will transform this data into analytics and experiments that shape Nirvana’s insurance and safety products.
This is a rare opportunity to tackle unsolved industry challenges where data can fundamentally change outcomes. If you’re passionate about finding patterns in complex data and turning insights into business impact, join us to help redefine the future of insurance.
What you’ll do:
- Own the analytics roadmap: Define, prioritize, and deliver solutions in risk monitoring, portfolio management, and business analytics.
- Lead full-cycle analytics projects: From scoping to delivery—set timelines, milestones, and drive execution.
- Build and scale the team: Hire, mentor, and grow analyst talent while instilling best practices in analytics, experimentation, and storytelling.
- Translate insights into action: Partner with leadership to influence product and business priorities with data-backed recommendations.
- Experimentation leadership: Design, run, and interpret A/B tests and other causal inference methods to measure impact.
- Analytics infrastructure: Define metrics, optimize data pipelines, and improve data warehouse efficiency to support scale.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work with ML/engineering for observability & measurement, and with product/finance/insurance for strategic insights.
About you:
- 8+ years of experience in data analytics, with at least 2+ years in a leadership/mentorship capacity.
- Strong expertise in SQL, Python, and analytics/statistical methods (EDA, hypothesis testing, regression, clustering).
- Deep experience with A/B testing, experimental design, and causal inference.
- Strong business acumen—able to connect analytics to portfolio performance, risk drivers, and business strategy.
- Experience designing and building metrics frameworks and analytics pipelines in high-growth environments.
- Exceptional communication skills—able to explain technical findings to both executives and technical peers.
- Proven track record of leading analytics teams in fast-paced, high-growth, ambiguous startup environments.
What you’ll get from us:
- Competitive compensation & meaningful equity
- Health insurance for you and your family
- Monthly wellness stipend
- Hybrid culture and reimbursement for home office equipment
- A flexible vacation policy and a team that understands building a company is a marathon, not a sprint
- A culture that gives you the autonomy you need to do great work, and the transparency you need to make good decisions
