About you:
As an experienced child protection case worker, counsellor or social worker, you will have:
- A relevant degree/tertiary qualification
- Current Working with Children Check in your current state or territory
- Experience identifying and addressing child protection concerns and providing case management and specialist support.
- Ability to build rapport, communicate and work effectively with people from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Ability to work with front line staff (Centre Directors, educators and teachers) that have existing strong relationships with children to build their competency in supporting children and families that have been the subject of a child protection notification.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation in each state and territory across Australia, or deep experience in one state and the ability to rapidly acquire this knowledge
- Knowledge of the Child Safe Standards (state-based) and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations
- High level written and verbal communication skills

Early Help Family Services is a developing initiative assisting families who are experiencing life challenges. Maximise your impact with targeted early support to help families navigate and access health and social systems, implement strategies to support their child/s' development and upskill care givers to strengthen family functioning.
Operational management and clinical supervision are provided, plus professional development support.
You will make a difference by
ââWorking collaboratively with the Early Help Family Services Team to provide early and timely supports for children and families across Brimbank Melton area in the home, community or on site.
âBuilding the capability of parents and educators through coaching, modelling and practical strategy provision to support the child’s development and everyday function.
âProviding parent group sessions to educate, support and strengthen families and encourage peer support.
âParticipating in case consultation, secondary consultation and liaison with community services / workers (eg childcare/MCHN)
âWorking in partnership with health and social services to develop linkages, navigation and co-ordinated care to improve social determinants of health. â
To succeed you will need
Tertiary qualification and registration in Psychology/Social work/Occupational Therapy with at least 4 years relevant experience working with children aged 0-12 years and their families
Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse families
Experience using strength based and trauma informed practice to support family functioning
Proven experience in the ability to support the identification, assessment and intervention strategies for infants, children and families with developmental or wellbeing
Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
Current and valid Victorian Working with Children’s Check and driver’s licence.

About the Role:
Position Overview
Mental Health, Justice Health and Alcohol and Drug Services (MHJHADS) offers compassionate, recovery-focused care for youth and adults across Canberra. Whether in hospitals, community centres, justice facilities, or even at home, MHJHADS provides specialised support tailored to each stage of life—from children and adolescents to older adults. Services include inpatient psychiatric care, community outreach, and harm minimisation programs, all designed to meet complex mental health needs with dignity and respect.
The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) provides specialist inpatient and community based mental health assessment and treatment services for children and adolescents experiencing moderate to severe mental illness/disorder with significant functional impairment, associated complex needs and risk.
Strong research links are maintained with the ANU, University of Canberra and the Australian Catholic University. All specialties are represented with the exception of organ transplantation. The hospital has well developed post graduate teaching programs. A fully equipped medical library is available on site with a large collection of hard copy and on line journals and textbooks.
The preferred candidate maybe considered for a conjoint position in ANU at an academic level commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. The academic position will be held for the duration of the Canberra Health Services employment and will be subject to regular performance reviews. No remuneration is attached to the University position. The employee will be responsible to the University on academic matters and to The Canberra Hospital & Health Services / Canberra Health Services for clinical/ research matters.
