  • Support the Climate Practice team in catastrophe modelling and cat risk engineering assessments using the vendor models (RMS, KatRisk and in-house models and tools.
  • Support wide range of risk consulting projects involving the undertaking of catastrophe risk modelling and engineering assessments including presentation of findings to internal and external clients.

    For every child, the right to Care

    Pacific Island countries face significant climate and disaster risks, with children being especially vulnerable due to overlapping environmental hazards and limited access to essential services. To address this, UNICEF Pacific is developing country-specific Children’s Climate Risk Index and Disaster Risk Models (CCRI-DRMs) for Fiji, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu. These models assess children's exposure and vulnerability to climate and non-climate risks at a subnational level, helping inform targeted policies and actions.

    UNICEF is collaborating with national ministries and UNITAR to integrate these models into government Decision Support Systems (DSS), enabling public access to child-focused risk data. Six workshops have been held to select indicators and validate data. The models are expected to be finalized by the end of August.

    The consultant will produce three analytical reports—one for each country—based on CCRI-DRM findings. These reports will support advocacy and action to protect vulnerable children from climate and disaster risks.

    How Can You Make a Difference?

    The consultant will help shape climate resilience for children across the Pacific by producing three country-specific brief analytical CCRI-DRM reports based on the CCRI-DRMs developed and provide a narrative document which includes methodologic, findings, highlighting the critical information, geographical areas, sectoral areas which are more critical, which will serve as an important outcome of climate and disaster risk analysis exercise currently ongoing for Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu.

    This assignment will involve developing three (3) report documents, involving country analysis reports for Fiji, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu covering, but not limited to, the following tasks:

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a scoping report by defining the final structure of the report (see the draft structure below) and the scope of each section and familiarize with the country context based on literature review of risk context and recommendations for actions.
  • Provide a snapshot of prevalent and evolving climate change and disaster risks, drawing from the CCRI-DRM exercise and the existing literature.
  • Review and analyze the findings and results emerging from the CCRI-DRMs to highlight key risks and issues related to hazards and child vulnerabilities at both national and sub-national levels. Make use of infographics and visuals such as graphs, diagrams and tables to illustrate key data points and information.
  • Draft key messages drawn from the analyzed figures and key message per sector (WASH, Education, Health, Food and Nutrition, Child Protection, Social Protection).
  • Present recommendations to help accelerate action to better prepare for response, reduce disaster risks and adapt to changing climate conditions, with a focus on children and adolescents and their families and communities.
  • Prepare an executive summary per country.
  • Prepare country-specific slide deck on CCRI-DRM for government ministries and other developing partners.
  • Production of three- country specific reports will be a maximum of 20 pages each (excluding the acknowledgements, forehead, annexes and references) with the following structure:
  • Acknowledgements
  • Forehead
  • Executive Summary (including 3 to 5 key messages)

    AKAH is looking for a seasoned expert in climate resilience to lead technical and strategic initiatives focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation. The ideal candidate will bring a strong urban lens to their work, with expertise in areas such as energy efficiency, sustainable buildings, and cooling solutions to address heat waves and urban flooding.

    Reporting to the Head of Knowledge Management and Partnerships , the Climate Change Coordinator (CCC) will play a pivotal role in driving impactful climate action. This position is well-suited for someone with a solid grounding in environmental science and a proven ability to forge strategic partnerships and mobilize resources to advance climate resilience efforts.

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    (A) Strategy and Leadership:
    (1) Drive AKAH India’s climate change strategy, including implementation of the AKDN Net Zero 2030 decarbonization roadmap and GHG Measurement & Management Framework;
    (2) Act as the organizational focal point for climate-related initiatives across programs built environment, emergency management, water and renewable energy;
    (3) Guide integration of nature-based solutions and environmental sustainability across all AKAH programs.

    (B) Technical and Programmatic Support:
    (1) Provide high-level technical support on GHG accounting, green building guidelines, and climate mitigation/ adaptation measures;
    (2) Conduct site visits, environmental assessments, and program audits to ensure alignment with best practices and international standards;
    (3) Analyse satellite and climate data to assess risks (e.g., urban heat island effect) and develop actionable strategies;

    (C) Partnerships and Fundraising:
    (1) Lead the development of proposals, and pitches for climate-related projects targeting institutional donors, foundations, and CSR partners;
    (2) Build and maintain strategic partnerships with government bodies, NGOs, research institutions, and the climate networks.

    (D) Capacity Building and Research:
    (1) Design and facilitate workshops, trainings, and learning events on climate action, environmental policy, and sustainability practices;
    (2) Conduct research and publish findings in collaboration with universities or think tanks where relevant.
