Implement and monitor Industrial Relation, Personnel Welfare and Payroll policies across the SFD and EFD.

Job Context & Major Challenges

  • The Staple Fiber Division, Nagda was set up in the year 1954 with an initial capacity of 5500 TPA, This has now grown to 1,50,000 TPA, making it the largest VSF unit in India. Due to this organic growth, the plant and equipment are a mix of vintage and latest designs, small and big capacities and installed in a haphazard manner.
  • The Unit produces widest range of VSF in the Group which suits to various customers for their requirements and is the largest producer of spun-dyed VSF in the world. It also uses a mix of different qualities/ type of pulp from varied sources. Thus, the unit is witness to all fluctuations in manufacturing relating to production volume, input pulp quality, and product varieties are absorbed, leaving other units, Birla Cellulosic and Grasilene Division, to operate on a steady basis.
  • Similarly, separate power plants were added in an organic manner to supply process steam and power to VSF & EFD operations and to supply condensing power to Chemical Division. Ageing plant and machinery require continuous replacement and modernization. Large work force is employed due to less instrumentation, mechanization and automation. Strong and multiple National level Unions are in position for last many years.
  • VSF unit falls under the category of highly polluting industry for water, air and land. Company has achieved great success in implementing and achieving the desired pollution norms and continuous efforts are being made in maintaining consistency and to improve further to meet environmental requirements.
  • There has been continuous improvement on all fronts, production, productivity, product grades, quality, consumption ratios, environment, and relation with local community and employees. These are to be sustained and improved further for providing a competitive edge to the business in a declining VSF & EFD market.

Bela Cement Works is located 220 km from Jabalpur and 18 Km for Rewa Madhya Pradesh, around 06 kms from National Highway No 7 & 30. It has a cement manufacturing capacity of 2.6 MTPA and clinker capacity of 2.1MTPA. Bela plant is 6700 TPD, 6 Stage 2 String, SLC pre-heater plant which is engineered, manufactured and supplied by M/s Larsen and Toubro Limited (FLS) and commissioned in the year of 1996. The original capacity of this plant was 4500 TPD, and in the year 2003 it was upgraded to 6700 TPD. The unit has cement grinding capacity as well as clinker export facility.Limestone requirement of the plant is 3.1 MTPA. To meet the limestone requirement, limestone mines are spread over 649 Ha having deposits sufficient for around 40 years. Limestone crusher with capacity of 900 TPH, located inside plant. Material is transported from mine to plant through Dumpers.The Unit has one captive thermal power plant of 25 MW in addition to 5 MVA Grid Power Connection with SEB to cater the entire power requirement of the unit. Plant has a private railway siding for its inbound/outbound material, fuel, cement and clinker movement. Water requirement of plant is catered from water harvesting pits in mines.

Role Purpose

To lead and manage the refractory function in the steel plant, ensuring reliable refractory performance, cost optimization, and continuous improvement to support uninterrupted operations


Key Responsibilities


1. Strategic & Planning

  • Formulate and implement refractory strategies for SMS, LF, BOF/EAF, CCM, and other plant units like BF, LDP, Mills, Power plant.

  • Introduce best practices and innovative technologies (pre-cast shapes, monolithics, advanced lining designs).
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement corrective measures for refractory breakdowns.
  • Benchmark performance against industry standards.

4. Cost & Inventory Control

  • Optimize refractory cost per ton of steel without compromising quality.
  • Control inventory levels, ensure timely procurement, and prevent stock-outs or overstocking.

5. People Management

  • Lead, train, and develop refractory engineers, supervisors, and contract workforce.
  • Ensure strict compliance to safety and housekeeping practices in refractory yards and during relining jobs.
  • Drive skill development for in-house refractory maintenance teams.

6. Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory guidelines during refractory handling, storage, and usage.
  • Implement safe working procedures for hot repair and relining jobs.


Qualification & Experience

  • Education : B.Tech/M.Tech in Ceramic Engineering / Metallurgy
