Role Overview
As Content Engineer for the Data Engineering vertical, your primary objective is to deliver high-quality, market-relevant learning products that address the evolving needs of data engineers. You will work closely with authors, experts, and technical reviewers to ensure our books, courses, and related resources set the industry standard in clarity, accuracy, and applied value.
Reporting directly to the Portfolio Director, you will own editorial quality from concept to publication, while also contributing to the vertical’s strategic growth through competitive immersion, user research, and experimentation with new product formats.

Editorial & Product Development
- Evaluate and refine proposals and outlines with a focus on user needs, market demand, and technical accuracy.

Strategic & Multi-Format Responsibilities
- Contribute beyond books by supporting multi-format publishing (courses, newsletters, live sessions, and derivative products) in line with user preferences.
- Track competing titles, market changes, and customer feedback to ensure Packt’s Data Engineering portfolio remains differentiated and relevant.
- Take on stretch projects and test new product types to evolve the vertical’s publishing model.
- Enable author growth by helping them sharpen teaching approaches and adapt complex topics for diverse learners.
- Identify inefficiencies in editorial workflows and implement improvements that raise efficiency and consistency.
- Decide when a product should be signed off for production, revised, or cancelled; ensure plagiarism is addressed; and balance speed-to-market with editorial depth.
