The Role
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven professional to lead the scientific manuscript review process for our globally recognized JoVE Journal . This role will oversee our Review and Peer Review Teams, ensuring rigorous scientific and editorial standards while driving efficiency, innovation, and team success.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Review and Peer Review Teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
- Oversee the complete manuscript review workflow from submission to publication
- Identify inefficiencies and process bottlenecks; implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize throughput and reduce timelines
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies (e.g., AI, workflow automation) to enhance productivity and author experience
- Maintain the highest standards of scientific rigor, editorial excellence, and ethical publishing practices
- Collaborate with our Editorial Department to provide authors with a clear, streamlined, and positive experience from submission to publication
- Collaborate with external stakeholders (authors, reviewers, etc.) to ensure a seamless peer and editorial review process
- Track key performance metrics, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational goals
- Identify opportunities for new journal sections and special content aligned with emerging research trends
Requirements
- A Ph.D. in life sciences.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in academic or scientific publishing with proven expertise in peer review and editorial workflows
- Demonstrated success in leading and managing editorial or review teams
- Strong knowledge of peer review models, open access publishing, and evolving trends in scholarly communication
- Experience with digital publishing platforms and workflow automation tools. Experience with Editorial Manager preferred
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to design and implement process improvements
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-starter with a results-driven mindset; thrives in a fast-paced environment
