About J-PAL
The Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) is a global research center working to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is informed by scientific evidence. Anchored by a network of 194 affiliated professors at universities around the world, J-PAL conducts randomized impact evaluations to answer critical questions in the fight against poverty. J-PAL South Asia, based at the Institute for Financial Management and Research in India, leads J- PAL’s work in the South Asia region. J-PAL South Asia conducts randomized evaluations, builds partnerships for evidence-informed policymaking, and helps partners scale up effective programs. Over more than ten years of existence, J-PAL South Asia has conducted 193 ongoing and completed randomized evaluations.
Project Description:
These positions relate to a portfolio of research on education reforms in India, based in JPAL South Asia, that is led by Profs. Karthik Muralidharan, Abhijeet Singh and Mauricio Romero. These evaluations are concentrated in four main thematic areas:
These positions are based in multiple states, reflecting the spread of projects.
This multi-year research agenda is funded through different research funders. In particular, two positions are funded through the What Works Hub for Global Education, a joint initiative supported by the UK’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Research Associate’s Job Description
Research Associates work closely with academic researchers and other field staff to perform a variety tasks including, but not limited to: designing survey questionnaires, conducting qualitative research, running pilot exercises, refining study designs and surveying instruments, managing survey teams, negotiating contracts with survey firms, checking and analyzing data, cleaning data and assisting in preliminary analysis, assisting in the writing of project reports and policy memos, and coordinating with local partners running the programs being evaluated.

• Assist in formulating the learning design framework –

learning product development processes and best practices.
•Ensures project task activities are completed
and/or project plans are adjusted to manage changes that affect the project

metrics, timelines, and other details pertaining project completion to all
stakeholders – Ops, marketing and design including the curriculum team
Training & Development and quality
•Provide academic support to all the regional
curriculum heads in terms of curriculum/product implementation assessment
monitoring, and learning resource management – wrt products/programs assigned
•Boot the sales, marketing and operations team
on the product details
•Develop and provide presentations to
individuals, small and large groups; such as; parent orientations, conduct open
houses, etc.
•Convenes periodic meetings with RCMs to
understand the ground level delivery of projects/curriculum and incorporate
feedback if any
•Attends department and general staff meetings
as required.
•Assists with the overall evaluation of early
childhood education programs in the system and develops strategies for

- Assigning work to support staff in the absence of campus manager/supervisor
- Keeping a tight watch on security measures at the campus
Preparation of certificates on-demand
- Be the central point of contact for generating student-related certificates on behalf of campuses such as bona fide, character certificates, TCs, etc.
Board Work
- Responsible for any CBSE/ICSE/IGCSE related board work including
- Consolidating documents for affiliation related purposes
- Student database uploads on board websites
- Student examination registrations
- STS database uploads (or any equivalent State Govt. reporting)
- Any other work found appropriate and assigned by the Head of School/Head Office
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple administrative tasks with accuracy and timeliness
- Ability to step in and lead operations in the absence of campus leadership
- Proficient in Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Forms, Gmail)
- Working knowledge of school platforms like PowerSchool, UC, or ERP systems
- Ability to handle operational issues promptly (transport, vendors, certificates)
- Understanding of vendor management processes: orders, delivery, complaints
- Data Management and Reporting
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Education Management, or related field
- Master’s degree or certification in School Administration or Operations Management (preferred)
- 7-10 years of experience in school administration, operations, or a similar administrative role
- Experience handling parent communication, school ERP systems, transport coordination, and vendor management
- Prior team leadership or supervisory experience in a school or educational institution is highly desirable
- Experience with CBSE/ICSE/IGCSE board-related administrative processes is an added advantage
