The EHS Specialist position reports to the and is part of the Custom Engineering team located in Pune and will be an on-site role. At Cytiva, our vision is, to advance future therapeutics from discovery to delivery.
What you will do:
+ EHS Responsibilities: To adhere to the Company EHS policy, organization and arrangements in consultation with various stake holders. To implement EHS Procedures and develop local work procedures to comply with legal obligations. To review and develop the Health & Safety Management Plan and communicate the plan at all level. Sustain EHS Compliance, identify, prevent and resolve potential EHS issues and to mitigate EHS liabilities associated with current operations.
+ Support for Department: To advise and support the Site Environment, Health & Safety Committee making sure that the committee takes ownership of the Site Environment, Health & Safety Plan. To advise Site Leader in ensuring that their Plant has key staff mobilized to carry out the Environment, Health& safety activities e.g. Risk/Impact assessors, First aiders, Fire wardens etc.
+ Accident investigation and prevention: To receive and investigate reports of accidents, dangerous occurrences and fire damage, determine their causes and make recommendations for improving recurrence prevention and controls. To monitor that all EHS related accidents/incidents are properly investigated by department managers and lessons learnt are shared appropriately. To maintain a system for recording, reporting and investigating injuries, accidents and dangerous occurrences& Environmental Incidents.
+ Environment Health & Safety (EHS)Training: To identify the training needs for associates & contractors and develop training matrix. Liaise with managers to nominate associates & contractors for training courses. Design, develop, upgrade content on EHS training and impart trainings as required. To monitor training and report progress on training against annual targets to the Site EHS Committee.Prepare a PPE matrix covering the entire premises on the basis of risk assessment of the respective area/activity.
Who you are:
+ Education requirement BE/B Tech/B.Sc. with a Diploma in Industrial Safety from a recognized institute Desirable Qualification: NEBOSH IGC/IOSH certification.
+ 3-7 years' practical experience with Health and Safety standards and procedures in Corporate or Manufacturing Industry.
+ Exposure to OHSAS 18001 & ISO 14001 management systems preferable
+ Able to implement Global EHS policies and accommodate local cultural and regulatory requirements

Position Summary:

The EHS Specialist will support the Global EHS strategy for compliance and risk management in the delivery of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and related Illumina product and chemical management information and processes. This individual will author Illumina product SDS using the SAP EHS module while supporting Illumina’s on-site chemical inventory and SDS Right to Know (RTK) systems. Key responsibilities include authoring Safety Data Sheets (SDS) using the SAP EHS Module, coordinating with the SDS Right to Know (RTK) Vendor (3E) on systems performance, and ensuring alignment with regulatory standards.

This role also supports Dangerous Goods (DG) classifications to enhance product safety and compliance. Proficiency in SAP EHS, 3E systems, effective communication, vendor management, and project management are essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Author Illumina product SDS using SAP EHS software in coordination with the Global EHS team and stakeholders, and related timelines.
  • Support maintenance of the SAP EHS Module, ensuring data integrity and compliance with regulatory standards.
  •  Collaborate with business stakeholders to collect and examine information needed to support the SDS authoring process including but not limited to chemical composition, physical and chemical properties, hazards, and safe handling practices.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute the transition of legacy SDSs to the SAP EHS Module.
  • Ensuring that SDSs adhere to relevant regulations and guidelines, such as OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (HCS) and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS).
  • Keeping SDSs up-to-date based on changes in product formulations or regulations.
  • Providing SDS data to business stakeholders including but not limited to GHS label information and DG classifications.
  • Support the process to ensure SDS is published and available on the Illumina SDS search engine for customers. 
  •  Assist with customer requests for SDS or related hazard communication information.
  • Liaise with the Right to Know (RTK) Vendor (3E) to manage updates, resolve issues, and oversee vendor performance.
  • Support the RTK system and ensure regulatory compliance. The RTK system is used to manage chemical inventory and SDS for all Illumina employees at all Illumina locations.
  • Manage and continuously improve the RTK and on-site chemical inventory process, ensuring data accuracy, proper labeling, and accessibility.
  • Reconcile chemical inventory records and address discrepancies with site representatives.
  • Provide stakeholders with inventory data, GHS label information, and DG classifications.
  • Deliver training on SDS content, chemical safety, and hazard communication processes.

    The Sr EHS Specialist, EHS Systems will support the Global EHS strategy by providing active management of EHS global business processes and related information management systems.     Safety is at the core of our culture. You will hold a very dynamic EHS role as you will support our Kolkata head office and R&D lab, as well as our field-based technicians located at our 30+ customer sites within the India territory, as well as acting as advisor to our Kolkata toll manufacturing partner. A key role acting as a change agent at all levels of the organization to drive continuous improvement.


    What will you do?


    • As individual contributor, reporting to the India EHS Manager, you will ensure sustainability and drive for continuous improvement at the Quaker Houghton Kolkata head office & lab, our India customer sites where our field-technicians operate, these sites are mainly heavy industry manufacturing plants and act as advisor for our local toll manufacturing partner.
    • Engage with office and lab teams based in our Kolkata location as well as with the field-based technicians located at our customer sites to promote and elevate our EHS standards.
    • Work closely with the India EHS Manager, the Global EHS Fluidcare Director, the Kolkata Lab Manager, Warehouse Manager and all relevant local business leaders, external firms and contractors when necessary to ensure full engagement.
    • Provide EHS knowledge, guidance, coaching and training to establish a positive progressive EHS culture. Act as a key resource for EHS training.
    • Investigate Incidents, near misses, hazard identifications and ensure appropriate root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
    • Be responsible for the EHS management system within the groups in the role’s scope.
    • Perform or coordinate internal and external audits, tests & inspections to ensure EHS standards and regulations are met.
    • Support and implement corporate EHS programs and systems.
    • Work closely on sustainability projects and support related initiatives.
    • Attend training, seminars, webinars where required to assist in maintaining an up-to-date professional knowledge in all areas of EHS legislation, standards, guidelines and codes of practice and ensure that any changes are reflected in the Company’s systems.
    • Any other tasks as required by management
    • Travelling within India : 50%.


    What do we look for?


    Experience :

    • At least 5 years experience in the health and safety and environmental discipline with a strong focus on occupational health and safety required within a heavy industry environment.
    • Must be familiar with hazardous material risks management.
    • At least 2 years working in an EHS role with multisite coverage that includes traveling.


    Education : Diploma in Industrial Safety (ADIS/PDIS/DIS) is a must.


    Language: English is a must. Hindi is highly valued
