Job Profile for Position- Design-Generalist-Mechanical & Business unit - Power
First Class Graduate /Postgraduate in Mechanical Engineering.
Industry: Power plants (thermal, nuclear), Substation, Steel plant, Oil & Gas, chemical plant
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible as Lead Fire Protection Design Engineer
What are the main responsibilities for this individual (i.e., reasons we need this person)?
1. To prepare design basis report and estimate fire water pump sizing and dead storage of complete fire protection system.
2. To estimate the various types of Fire protection systems for various areas of the project under consideration.
3. To carry out equipment sizing, pipe sizing, prepare process flow diagram, P&ID’s.
4. To carry out hydraulic calculations using various software such as Pipenet. Hydraulic calculation for entire hydrant/ spray network/ spray/sprinkler/ gas protection system, study of fire hazard case scenarios.
5. To prepare detailed piping fire hydrant, spray, sprinkler piping layouts, foam system, gas protection system layouts FM200/Novec1230/CO2/Inergen/Argonite/Argon), isometrics layout drawings and construction/erection drawings
6. Estimate detailed bill of materials for fire protection equipment, piping, supports, paints, etc for procurement.
7. Prepare technical specifications, RFQ, technical datasheets for entire fire protection system.
8. To carry out bid meetings with Client & Vendor, bid analysis, technical bid evaluation report with respect to entire Fire protection systems.
9. Vendor drawing reviews for entire fire protection systems.
10. Carry out cost estimates, manhours & schedule planning activities for the project.
11. Able to do complete detailed engineering and issue drawings for construction as per NFPA, BIS, TAC, NBC, OISD, Local regulations. Getting approval from Client/ Local approving authorities. Value addition in design engineering to optimize cost.
12. Site field engineering support for erection and commissioning.

What are the “must-have” skill sets, without which a candidate would not be considered and should not be submitted?
1. NFPA standards and detailed vendor design engineering as per NFPA is essential. FM Global standards detailed design is added advantage.
2. Work experience of entire fire protection system in power plant (thermal coal/gas/solar/substations) domestic & international is a must. Oil & gas industries experience is added advantage. Work experience in design of fire protection of transformers, cable galleries, coal conveyors, workshops, warehouse, control rooms, admin bldg, fuel oil tanks, and boilers is a must.
3. Work experience in infra projects like residential bldg, hospitals, shopping malls, commercial bldgs, hotels, etc will not be counted in relevant experience.
4. Knowledge of passive fire system, fire risk evaluation assessment is desired.
5. Good verbal and written communication skills, dynamic nature, good coordination skills with interdepartmental and with Client.
6. Familiarity with applicable Indian/International codes is a must.
7. Good decision-making capabilities & communication skills is a must.
8. Familiarization of fire alarm and detection system.
9. Deliver quality, error free documents/ drawings, take ownership of deliverable and maintain project schedule timeliness is a must.

Key Responsibilities:
o Producing BIM Models for fire protection & Mechanical (MEP) services using REVIT MEP
by agreeing drawing strategy, type, size of drawings and drawing numbering with project
engineer/consultant/client and suggesting methods of drawing production to ensure
efficient methods of working.
o Use templates for CAD/BIM work and use CAD/BIM library items to assist design work
and produce construction deliverables in 2D format like -
* Sprinkler layout.
* Fire alarm layouts.
* Piping layout, piping general arrangements, pipe routing studies.
* Isometric drawings.
* General Arrangement drawings of Equipment room.
* Plumbing drawings & riser diagrams,
* Development of plans and section drawings.
* Equipment Schedules, Installation details drawings.
o Responsible for coordinating assigned scope of work with other disciplines to generate a
clash free design.
o Willing to advance in career by taking increased engineering design responsibilities by
closely working with discipline lead engineer.
o A committed team player able to work on own initiative.
o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
o Good Communication skills (verbal & written) and ability to self-check and produce
accurate work.
* Tools:
o 3D Tools: REVIT is must and Knowledge of Smart Plant 3D; AutoCAD MEP is a plus.
o 2D Tools: AutoCAD. Knowledge of MicroStation is a plus.
o Coordination Tools: Navisworks
o Microsoft Office Tools - MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, Outlook, OneNote
**Qualifications**
o Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or ITI/ NCTVT - Mechanical Draftsman.
o 5 years of experience in industrial/commercial projects fire protection
design, development of general arrangement drawings, sprinkler layouts, piping layouts,
Riser drawings, fire alarm drawings etc. using 3D or 2D design tools.
o Working knowledge of International codes and standards (ASME, International
Mechanical Code, International Fire Code, International Building code, NFPA etc.) used in
Food and Consumer Industry, Manufacturing, Industrial and Commercial projects.

Key Responsibilities
- Plan all the works and monitor the same. Identify the risk and propose mitigation. Co-ordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordination with Design Consultants for ensure deliverables of all Fire Protection and Alarm services and co-ordination drawings and SLD, Schematic drawings etc.
- Collect Shop drawings from vendor for respective packages and get it validate with FIRE PROTECTION AND ALARM SERVICES consultants and issue contractors to execute the work.
- Getting work method of statement from respective FIRE PROTECTION AND ALARM SERVICES package from contractor and get it approved from consultants
- Execute and monitor in all the FIRE PROTECTION AND ALARM SERVICES related work
- Setting up the MEP Quality Manual, Inspection Testing Plan
- Ensure all the MIR s ar certified before using at site, also ensure consultant s representee too signed
- Setting up Documentation Process with respect to all services equipment
- Track FIRE PROTECTION AND ALARM SERVICES materials delivery and maintain long lead items delivery tracker
- Monitoring whether construction measures relating to the building are in conformity with the Design (GFC drawings) and the bills of quantities
- Participating Testing, commissioning of services activities and maintain testing certificates, checklist etc.
- Verification, evaluation and implementation of accompanying changes to the works and recommend to client for approval.
- Obtain relevant, necessary O & M documents, guaranty and warranties
- Ensure smooth handover of FIRE PROTECTION AND ALARM SERVICES packages
