Our Tax business offers opportunities across our Australian offices, with roles ranging from Senior Manager  through to Director grade. Responsibilities include:

  • Understanding our clients unique needs as a trusted tax professional 

  • Supporting some of Australia’s most iconic clients across financial services to navigate through the changing tax landscape and building trustrated relationships 

  • Managing client portfolios and driving relationships with clients across a range of industry specialisations, as well as liaising with relevant taxation authorities

  • Supporting complex and strategic tax projects, giving you exposure to the border Corporate and Global tax business,  including Tax Controversy, US tax Advisory Services, Goods and Services Tax and Real Estate and Infrastructure Tax

  • Working with our clients and the broader team to proactively manage their Australian tax obligations through a strong understanding of their circumstances and requirements

  • Developing strategies for working as a team to solve complex tax technical questions and deliver on client timeline

  • Driving the use of technology to enhance the compliance processes for clients and the wider Corporate and Global tax business 

  • Demonstrating a passion for being at the forefront of change, you’re ready to help our Tax team navigate an increasingly complex tax environment for clients through innovative solutions

  • Showing a keen interest in technology and an understanding of the benefits of automation

  • Coaching, mentoring and developing junior team member 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field 

  • Postgraduate academic qualifications such as a MBA or a Masters is highly regarded

  • Experience delivering tax advisory and compliance services gained in a profession service environment of a Big 4 accounting firm, a mid tier firm or a Law firm 

  • A good understanding of the Australian Tax market with exposure to International markets

  • Use data analytics to provide relevant insights for decision making purposes

  • Partner with clients to provide assistance with regulatory reviews, investigations, disclosures 

  • Efficient with an eye for detail and have strong research skills and problem solving abilities

  • Strong collaboration, interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with excellent business writing and excel skills

What is the Tax Specialist – Global Corp Tax group responsible for?

  • Preparation and/or review of all U.S. federal, state, international, tax returns, as required for Franklin Resources, Inc. and its subsidiary entities.     We are looking for a qualified Chartered Accountant/ CPA with multiple years of US Tax experience (extensive knowledge of USGAAP and ASC 740).

    Your Focus
    As a Tax Manager – US Taxation, your primary responsibilities will include assisting in the preparation of the Company’s worldwide quarterly and annual tax provisions and all aspects related to financial reporting (ASC 740), SOX controls and testing, as well as auditor review. This role will sit within the Tax Operations group but will also support leaders of Tax Compliance, Tax Operations and Tax Planning. This is an individual contributor`` role responsible for supporting processes.


    The role will report to US Sr. Manager – Reporting

    How you will contribute

    • Assist with the preparation of consolidated income tax provision and related work papers, including Valuation Allowance, FIN48 as well as tax related disclosures for financial reporting.
    • Coordinate collection and review of quarterly and annual foreign tax packages.
    • Assist in the preparation of the Company’s APB23 calculations.
    • Assist with the quarterly and annual setup of the tax packages in OneSource Tax provision tool (OTP) and the overall maintenance of our online tracking system.
    • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements and technology solutions in the company’s provision operations.
    • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and support the creation of strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation.
    • Maintain effective internal control procedures over all aspects of the tax process to ensure compliance with SOX guidelines.
    • Responsible for managing the legal entity organizational chart including the gathering of information from regional team and updating the org. chart.
    • Participate in other projects as necessary in support of M&A activities.
    • Engage with and develop relationships with both internal and external tax resources.
    • Responsible for managing a team of 1+ support staff.

    Job Requirements

    What will you need to be successful
    • CA/ CPA with at least 6 to 8 years of post-qualification experience
    • ASC 740 US GAAP experience is a must.
    • State US/International Tax experience preferred.
    • International tax exposure (treaty interpretation etc.)
    • Working knowledge with the OneSource Tax Provision Tool.
    • Independent and reliable.
    • Must be able to partially adapt to US working hours during certain periods of the years (Quarterly and annual provision).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Must adhere to strict deadlines.
