About the role
We’re looking for an experienced General Practitioner (GP) with a passion for working with young people aged 12-25 years old in the mental health space. In this role, you’ll work alongside our clinical team to provide young people with mental, physical, and sexual health care under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS).
The headspace model strives to provide timely and appropriate access to support the mental wellness of young people. A key part of this model is to offer wrap-around care, including medical input that is integrated into our clients’ treatment plans. Our contracted GPs are highly valued members of our team as they provide this vital care pathway.
In this role, you will be self-employed working on contract with our centre, and bulk billing your clients.
What you’ll be doing in the role
When you start, our clinical team will quickly work with you to build a caseload that is in line with your capacity, skills, and experience. You will always have support from an on-site clinical team including new in-reach positions from Queensland Health (under the Better Access Bilateral Scheme) as well as access to a community of GPs in the headspace network.
Next, you will build your own schedule. We will give you flexibility around hours and days you’d like to offer appointments (between Monday to Friday), with some limited out-of-hours availability required from time to time.
You’d be a great fit if
- Bachelor of Medicine (or equivalent) with current Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APRHA) registration.
- You are motivated, organised, and you prefer to manage your own schedule. You would be working autonomously, with support from our clinical team.
- You’ve got a passion to help your community and grow your career working with young people aged 12-25 years old in mental health care.
- You’ve got the knowledge and experience to work with a range of presentations within the mild to moderate spectrum. This can include, but is not limited to, stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, self-harm alcohol and drug use and family discord.
- You have sensitivity, respect, and experience working with culturally diverse communities. Our centre’s demographic includes a large proportion of those in the LGBTIQAP+ community, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and those who are culturally and linguistically diverse.
- Experience performing health checks.
- You have ABN and professional indemnity insurance.
- You have a Medicare provider number and you can bill under the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS).
