Role Overview:
We are seeking a seasoned GitHub Migration Architect / Specialist to lead the enterprise-wide migration of repositories from Bitbucket to GitHub.
This role combines strategic planning, solution architecture, execution, and enablement , requiring expertise in DevOps, GitHub Enterprise, cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), containerization (AKS), and code quality (SonarQube) .
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategy & Planning
- Assess current Bitbucket repository landscape across business units.
- Define a migration strategy tailored to enterprise needs.
- Build a phased roadmap with timelines, milestones, and KPIs.
- Conduct stakeholder workshops to align requirements and expectations.
2. Architecture & Design
- Define GitHub Enterprise architecture : repository structure, access control, branch policies, and governance.
- Architect GitHub Actions workflows for CI/CD modernization.
- Ensure integration with AKS, SonarQube, AWS services, and existing DevOps tools .
- Establish governance and compliance frameworks (code review, secrets management, audit policies).
3. Execution & Implementation
- Lead migration of repositories (including history, branches, permissions, and pipelines).
- Automate migration tasks using Python, Bash, GitHub CLI/API .
- Reconfigure CI/CD pipelines and integrations.
- Provide troubleshooting and hands-on support during migration phases.
4. Risk Management & Optimisation
- Identify risks (legacy integrations, incompatible workflows, permission conflicts).
- Create mitigation and fallback strategies.
- Optimize GitHub for scalability, security, and developer productivity .
5. Documentation & Enablement
- Produce documentation (architecture, migration process, runbooks).
- Deliver training and onboarding sessions for developers and admins.
- Provide post-migration support and drive continuous improvement.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise:
- 8+ years of IT experience, with at least 3+ years in GitHub Enterprise and hands-on repository migration projects.
- Proven migration experience from Bitbucket → GitHub Enterprise .
- Strong in Git workflows, DevOps practices, and automation .
- Hands-on with AKS, SonarQube, AWS services (EC2, S3, IAM, CodePipeline) .
- Proficiency in scripting (Python, Bash, PowerShell) and GitHub CLI/API.
- Familiarity with Jenkins, ArgoCD, Prisma Cloud, Nexus (preferred).
- Architectural & Strategic Skills:
- Experience designing scalable, secure GitHub architectures.
- Track record in enterprise-level migrations and change management .
- Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and present to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- GitHub Certified Admin or equivalent certification.
- Hands-on with GitHub Actions and Advanced Security .
- Familiarity with Terraform or ARM templates (IaC) .
- Experience in consumer product industry (nice-to-have).
