The Staff Process Safety Engineer is expected to be diligent in proactively identifying and informing supervisors and Asset Leadership teams of potentially hazardous situations
**What you'll be doing**
+ Verification of overpressure relief scenarios and assurance on adequate protection, i.e. verification of PRV, PVV capacities.
+ Provides Expertise in equipment safeguarding, Pumps, Tanks, Vessels etc. Ensuring Safeguarding manuals are current and up to date.
+ Knowledge of design principles for flare systems.
+ Design and review safety-critical systems and equipment
+ Interprets, reviews and/or critiques critical documentation/diagrams such as equipment datasheets (pumps, compressors, vessels, relief devices), cause and effect, mechanical flow, Process Engineering Flow Scheme (PEFS), Process Flow Scheme (PFS) and HMBs.
+ Knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including API 520/521, API 537, API 754, ANSI B31.3, CSA Z662, ASME Pressure Vessel Code, EUB60, CEPA and relevant ISO Standards
+ Apply the risk-based decision-making process to ensure that hazards are controlled to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP)
+ Knowledge of Plant Changes (MoCs) i.e. HAZOPs (scribe), What-Ifs etc is desired.
+ Apply knowledge and awareness of the Learning from Incidents (LFI) process.
+ Apply simulation tools like UNISIM Design, ASPEN HYSYS / PLUS, PRO-II or other appropriate tools for Process Safety Design when required.
+ Collaborating with other engineers and stakeholders to enhance the safety and efficiency of operations
+ Providing technical advice on process safety issues / escalations to various stakeholders including management, engineering, and operations teams.
**What you bring**
+ Preferably with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or equivalent.
+ Preferably 5 years of experience in the Oil and Gas industry is desirable with considerable experience as a Process Safety Engineer.
+ Direct process safety engineering experience is preferred.
+ Relevant Process Safety and/or Process Engineering experience in the Refinery & Chemicals Industry
+ Extensive experience in Relief Valve sizing, Pipeline and Pump Hydraulics calculations
+ Familiarity with process simulation software - Unisim, Hysys, Flarenet, SALUS by Smith & Burgess.
+ Familiarity with both SHELL in-house (e.g. HEMP, FRED etc.) and Industrial (e.g. PHAPro, HAZOP, etc.) risk management tools.

What role you will play in our team
As a Process Safety Engineer supporting work within ExxonMobil’s Technology and Engineering Company, you provide engineering leadership in various aspects of Process Safety to our business divisions, with a mission towards providing engineering and risk management solutions for ExxonMobil’s operating facilities around the world, to ensure safe and reliable operations.
Based in Bengaluru, you will be a part of our community of Process Safety Engineers located around the world, including our team of Process Safety discipline experts in our Spring Campus headquarters. You will be equipped with the required skills and knowledge, and thereby also expected to be able to work across geographic restrictions, and leverage on the strength and experience of others within our company, to ensure that we deliver maximum value to our business line partners.
What you will do
Your primary role would be as a Process Safety Engineer designated to work remotely with Manufacturing/Production Sites.
The position involves aspects of process safety engineering such as explosion effects analysis and facility siting, pressure relief/disposal system adequacy, consequence analysis, dispersion modeling, fire protection, hazard identification (e.g. HAZOP or similar), risk analysis (LOPA, Event Tree Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Availability Target setting), as well as safety in design and management of change evaluations.
Process Safety Engineers are also expected to engage with risk owners within the business lines, and partner with the relevant stakeholders to arrive at sound risk management decisions regarding process safety concerns at their facilities.
Specific deliverables may include.
- Applying ExxonMobil and Industry Safety in Design Standards and requirements in change reviews at existing production facilities and greenfield/ brownfield projects, in areas of concern such as;
- Equipment overpressure, over-temperature scenarios.
- Managing reaction hazards
- Preventive and Mitigative safeguards for Major Accident scenarios
- Facilitating Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and executing other project deliverables.
- Quantitative and Qualitative Risk Screenings and Assessments.
- Consequence Modelling using PHAST and other applicable industry methods
- Vapor Cloud Explosion Consequence and Risk analysis
- Defining fire protection design requirements for different equipment types including Fire & Gas Mapping
- Capital Project Support including development and deployment of Project Risk Assessment and Management Plans (PRAMP) which may include the above activities applied along the Project Management System timelines.
You are expected to be reasonably mobile in this job role and be available to travel to our other facilities around the world as needed to facilitate and complete the necessary tasks and reviews.

- At least 3 years of experience in specific Process Safety Engineering job roles.
- Demonstrated competency and experience in the following areas:

- Good working knowledge of engineering software tools such as PHAST, PHA-Pro, Hysys, Flarenet, FlareSim, Pipenet/AFT is an advantage.

Using prescribed BP approved design methods and procedures, support preparation of and participate in key areas such as HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID and environmental reviews where necessary

General knowledge of gas processing, refining or petrochemical processes and typical flow schemes
Experience with process safety modelling, application and result interpretation of results for use by design teams (e.g. fire hazard assessment, dispersion modelling, quantitative risk assessment)
A self-starter and pragmatic decision maker, willing to challenge and ensure engineering value is delivered.
Be self-motivated with a willingness to learn from others and work with minimum direction
