Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a variety of commercial vehicles, including heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and potentially specialized transport units, in a safe and efficient manner.
- Plan and execute daily delivery and pick-up routes, optimizing for time, fuel efficiency, and safety.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, reporting any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure the secure loading and unloading of goods, verifying manifests and maintaining cargo integrity throughout the journey.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, road safety regulations, and company policies at all times.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and delivery details using company-provided systems.
- Provide exceptional customer service during pick-up and delivery, representing the company professionally.
- Manage unexpected situations such as traffic delays, vehicle breakdowns, or route changes calmly and effectively.
- Communicate regularly with dispatch and operations management regarding route status, issues, and delivery confirmations.
- Maintain a clean and organized vehicle interior, and assist with basic vehicle maintenance as required.
- Valid Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) or equivalent commercial driver's license issued by Indian authorities.
- Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a commercial transport driver, with extensive experience in operating large trucks and trailers.
- Clean driving record with no major traffic violations or accidents in the past 5 years.
- Thorough knowledge of road safety regulations, defensive driving techniques, and vehicle maintenance.
- Ability to operate various types of commercial vehicles and associated equipment.
- Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks such as lifting, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to read and understand route maps, delivery schedules, and company instructions.
- Familiarity with the road networks and traffic patterns in and around Kolkata is highly desirable.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight trips.
