Job Title: Senior Automation Engineer – Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Job Summary:

The Senior Automation Engineer is responsible for driving automation initiatives across pharmaceutical manufacturing systems, ensuring compliance with GMP, and enhancing equipment reliability and process efficiency. This role involves overseeing automation design, programming, validation, and maintenance of PLC, SCADA, and related control systems used in production and utility areas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managed automation systems supporting production, utilities, and cleanroom environments in compliance with GMP and regulatory requirements.
• Developed, modified, and optimized control logic for PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, DeltaV, or equivalent).
• Supported the design, configuration, and integration of new automated equipment and systems into existing production lines.
• Performed troubleshooting and root cause analysis of automation and instrumentation failures to minimize downtime.
• Executed system upgrades, patches, and changes following change control procedures and validation standards (GAMP 5).
• Prepared and reviewed technical documentation including URS, FDS, FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ, and SOPs.
• Ensured data integrity and compliance with 21 CFR Part 11 for electronic records and automation systems.
• Collaborated with cross-functional teams (Engineering, QA, Validation, and Manufacturing) for project execution and continuous improvement.
• Guided junior engineers and technicians in automation programming, troubleshooting, and documentation practices.

We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer with strong expertise in the installation, commissioning, and support of fermentors and bioprocess vessels. The ideal candidate will have a background working with OEMs or pharmaceutical/biotech manufacturing organizations, and must possess hands-on experience in field automation systems, instrumentation, and process control logic.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Lead and execute installation, commissioning, FAT, and SAT activities for fermentation and bioprocessing systems.
2. Develop, modify, and troubleshoot automation logic and control systems including PLC/SCADA/HMI interfaces.
3. Provide on-site technical support during project execution phases, ensuring system functionality and compliance with regulatory standards (cGMP/21 CFR Part 11).
4. Collaborate with OEM design and project teams to review engineering documentation (P&ID, wiring diagrams, IO lists).
5. Perform system calibration, loop checks, and functional testing of instruments and control panels.
6. Support integration with MES, DCS, or central SCADA systems, ensuring data integrity and compliance.
7. Train end users on system operation and provide post-commissioning support.
8. Maintain documentation for automation systems and update project records as required.

Job Requirements:

1. B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation, Electronics, Electrical, or related field.
2. Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in automation within OEMs or pharmaceutical/biotech process industries.
3. Hands-on experience with automation platforms such as Siemens, Allen Bradley, Delta, Schneider, or equivalent.
4. In-depth understanding of fermentors, bioreactors, and upstream/downstream bioprocess equipment.
5. Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI/SCADA configuration, and control panel design.
6. Familiarity with GAMP 5, validation protocols, and regulatory guidelines is a strong plus.
7. Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and client-handling skills.
8. Willingness to travel for site commissioning across India and overseas, if required.
