We are seeking IT Modernization Consultants who can enable our clients' digital transformation journeys, starting from business possibilities through envisioning and guiding the execution of the corresponding large-scale transformation of the IT landscape and organization, all in the context of delivering sustainable added value for the business. You work with customers, your Kyndryl peers, and business partners in an agile and collaborative fashion to ascertain and communicate the value of IT to the business, understand how to use IT to help drive business innovation, define and transform IT organizations to successfully incorporate and leverage transformation drivers such as Cloud, Agile patterns, Data and AI, Modern Operations and cross-vendor service integration and management. Candidates are IT Modernization thought leaders who can establish vision and value and communicate it to business and technical audiences and stakeholders.
The IT Modernization Consultant designs and transforms IT landscapes to help the IT organization drive successful digital transformation of the business. A holistic view across organizational models, people, processes, roles and technology and an understanding of the multiple inter-dependences across these dimensions is critical. In addition, the ability to understand business models and objectives and align IT modernization initiatives to them is vital. Additional critical skills include strategic thinking, a strong understanding of transformation program management and governance and the ability to develop strong business cases.
**Responsibilities**
+ Identify technical debt, legacy system constraints, and improvement opportunities.
+ Develop modernization strategies and roadmaps, including cloud migration, application re-platforming, and automation initiatives.
+ Support tool and platform evaluations, technology architecture design, and vendor assessments.
+ Facilitate stakeholder workshops and cross-functional interviews to align IT transformation goals with business objectives.
+ Define future-state target architecture and operating models in collaboration with enterprise architects and domain experts.
+ Provide oversight or advisory on modernization execution, ensuring alignment with strategy and risk mitigation.
+ Contribute to the development of reusable consulting frameworks, accelerators, and best practices.
+ Understand and qualify the benefits of IT modernization for the business.
+ Define compelling business cases for IT modernization.
+ Create client-facing deliverables including roadmaps, blueprints and executive presentations
+ Use industry standard frameworks like CoBIT, IT4IT, SIAM and ITIL to build and mature IT organizational and process models.

**Required Technical and Professional Expertise**
+ 5-10+ years of experience in IT consulting, solution architecture, or modernization roles.
+ Proven experience in a range of business and technology lead roles, including IT strategy development, enterprise and solution architecture, digital transformation, IT business case development and shaping and architecting large scale business and technology transformation.
+ Strong knowledge in emerging areas like GenAI and their impact on transformation.
+ Ability to conduct assessments of clients' domains like Compute, Storage, Network, Middleware, databases, Monitoring/ Observability, IAM, DevSecOps, ITSM, end user compute and Security
+ Experience with the transformational impacts and benefits of emerging areas such as AI, cloud computing, digital disruption, agile and technology innovation.
+ Experience applying IT4IT, CoBIT, SIAM or ITIL methodologies.
+ Experience in understanding enterprise architectures based on TOGAF and other equivalent frameworks.
+ Experience in documenting complex systems, clearly articulating current state, future state, and holistic Roadmaps.
+ Proven ability to coach and develop others.
+ Awareness of Agile practices and their impact on the IT organization.
+ Understanding the organizational requirements to successfully adopt and run DevOps practices and SRE / Platform Engineering.
+ Ability to listen with empathy.
**Preferred Technical and Professional Experience**
+ Proven experience in legacy system assessment, cloud adoption, or digital transformation programs.
+ Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and migration approaches (lift-and-shift, re-platforming, refactoring).
+ Understanding of DevOps, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), APIs, and automation tools.
+ Exposure to enterprise architecture frameworks (TOGAF, Gartner) is a plus.
+ Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
+ Certification in IT4IT, CoBIT or ITIL methodologies
+ MBA or equivalent professional experience

As an Application Modernization Engineer, you will work with customers to assess existing enterprise applications in anticipation of a cloud migration/modernization, by providing application design experience, assessing and classifying applications and application platforms, and proposing rewrite approaches to facilitate deployment to cloud native products like Google Kubernetes Engine. You will work with customers on legacy application re-design and implementation including application scaling, reliability, and ongoing operations such as application and feature rollouts, monitoring, and more. You will work closely with Product Management and Product Engineering to build and constantly generate excellence in our products.

**Responsibilities:**
+ Be a trusted technical advisor to customers, and design and build applications. Recommend approaches and estimated effort for application migration and modernization programs.
+ Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.
+ Maintain high levels of development practices (e.g., technical design, solution development, systems configuration, test documentation/execution, issue identification and resolution) writing clean, modular and self-sustaining code, with repeatable quality and predictability.
+ Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. Work with customers to design technical architectures, migration approaches, and application optimizations.
+ Create and deliver best practice recommendations, tutorials, blog articles, sample code, and technical presentations adapting to different levels of key business and technical stakeholders.
