**Job Purpose/Background:**
We are seeking an experienced Employment Lawyer to oversee employment law matters across our operations in India, where we have a growing business and expanding employee base. The role will also provide additional employment legal support to the broader APAC region.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Regional Lead of Employment Law, the local Legal & Compliance team, Human Resources, and other internal stakeholders on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. These include employee relations issues, employment litigation and legal proceedings, as well as transactional support (e.g., employee transfers in merger scenarios).
The role requires a high degree of autonomy, the ability to provide pragmatic legal advice in a fast-paced environment, and strong stakeholder management skills.
**Key Responsibilities:**
+ Provide legal support to India leadership and HR teams on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious employment law.
+ Advise on employee relations issues, including internal investigations, grievances, performance management, disciplinary issues, redundancies, mutual separation negotiations.
+ Support HR on regulatory and compliance matters (e.g., POSH compliance) and compensation and benefits issues in accordance with Indian labor laws.
+ Provide legal support on employment aspects of transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, insourcing, and office establishment.
+ Draft and review employment-related documents such as labor contracts, HR policies, employee handbooks, and termination letters.
+ Collaborate with regional and global legal teams on cross-border employment issues and global initiatives (e.g., diversity and inclusion).
+ Coordinate with internal legal teams and external counsel on employment law matters.
+ Identify and manage legal risks related to employment law in India.
**Other Responsibilities:**
+ Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external advisors.
+ Conduct training sessions for HR and business teams on employment law topics.
**Knowledge/Experience:**
+ Qualified lawyer in India with 12+ years of experience practicing employment law.
+ Deep expertise of Indian labor laws and employment regulations.
+ In-house experience in multinational companies or financial institutions is preferred.

About Condé Nast’s Business and Legal Affairs team (BALA)
The BALA team is led by the General Counsel based in our New York HQ and is comprised of colleagues in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Purpose
The purpose of this role is to head up the legal department of Conde Nast India, which includes the Indian market business and shared service centres.
The role holder will report to the VP International but work closely with the India MD and Director of Finance. The role holder will be the first point of contact for legal matters arising in India and agree escalation channels and delegation processes as necessary with the wider BALA team and relevant functions in India e.g. Finance and HR teams.
The role holder will also support BALA with the implementation of any multi market legal matters or transactions on which they are working e.g. the roll out of global ethical policies which need to be considered through Indian law. The role holder will have a duty to make sure that global policies and initiatives are informed by Indian law and its regulatory environment.
What will you be doing:
- Lead and manage the India legal team, including mentoring and supervising team members, while aligning legal strategies with organisational goals;
- Provide pragmatic, commercial and strategic legal advice to the India leadership team;
- Advise and support on all other legal matters arising in Condé Nast India, including but not limited to intellectual property, litigation, commercial contracts, data privacy, employment, corporate governance and regulatory matters.

Responsibilities:
Advise Business Operations
- Provide legal support to the day-to-day business operation managed by the Mumbai office, including commercial, R&D, medical, access, sales and marketing, and all supporting functions including finance, HR, regulatory, IT, supply chain, and others, to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, as well internal client access to clear, concise and tailored legal advice to appropriately achieve business goals.
- Provide legal advice on day-to-day Hyderabad site operational matters such as contracting, employment, privacy and other areas in law that are not related to drug development.
- Identify, manage and mitigate legal risks as well as provide support when legal issues arise.
- Keep HQ, regional and market management informed of potential liability of ongoing litigation and potential new contingency/litigation.
