Our client, a pioneering pharmaceutical company, is seeking an exceptional Lead Research Scientist specializing in Medicinal Chemistry to drive innovation in drug discovery. This role, located in Kochi, Kerala, IN , will operate on a hybrid basis, fostering collaboration and leveraging advanced research facilities. You will be at the forefront of identifying and developing novel therapeutic agents.

As a Lead Research Scientist, you will be responsible for designing and synthesizing novel small molecules with potential therapeutic applications. Your expertise will be crucial in guiding the medicinal chemistry strategy for key drug discovery programs. This involves leading a team of talented chemists, providing scientific direction, and fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment. You will be involved in structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies, lead optimization, and the design of candidate drugs. Expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques and state-of-the-art analytical methods is essential.

Key responsibilities include developing innovative synthetic routes, executing complex multi-step syntheses, and characterizing synthesized compounds using spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC, etc.). You will interpret experimental data, propose new hypotheses, and design subsequent experiments to advance drug discovery projects. Collaborating closely with biologists, pharmacologists, and other scientists to assess compound efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetic properties will be a significant part of your role. You will stay abreast of the latest scientific literature and emerging technologies in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery. Managing research projects, including planning experimental timelines, allocating resources, and overseeing lab operations, will be crucial. Presenting research findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences, as well as contributing to patent applications and scientific publications, will be expected.

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Organic or Medicinal Chemistry, with a strong publication record and a minimum of 7-10 years of post-doctoral research experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry. Proven experience in leading and mentoring research teams is required. Demonstrated success in driving drug discovery projects from hit identification through to lead optimization and preclinical candidate selection is essential. Expertise in modern medicinal chemistry approaches, including parallel synthesis, combinatorial chemistry, and computational chemistry, is highly desirable. Excellent understanding of ADMET properties and their impact on drug development is mandatory. Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and a passion for scientific discovery are critical. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex scientific information to diverse audiences, are necessary. Experience in a hybrid work environment and the ability to balance remote strategic work with in-lab experimental execution is expected.
