About the Role:

The Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Consultation Service (PIMHCS) is a community based, multidisciplinary consultation service which aims to improve the clinical outcomes for women presenting with moderate to severe mental health conditions and who are planning pregnancy, are pregnant, and in the first year after birth. The team provides specialist perinatal consultation, mental health assessment and advice to clients and to referring services. The service also provides psychoeducation and mother-infant attachment interventions including the Circle of Security (CoS) parenting program, Mother-Infant Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (MI-DBT) and Building Blocks, an infant lead play mother-infant group.

The MI-DBT program is a program for women in the perinatal period with Borderline Personality Disorder and/or Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. These conditions are characterised by difficulty with emotional regulation, self-harm, and challenges in relationships. The MI-DBT group helps mothers to learn to manage their own emotional dysregulation, and also to help their children to manage emotions, feel safe, and build trust in the attachment relationship.

About the Role:

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic Community Mental Health Clinician (Grade 2 Occupational Therapist/Social Worker/Psychologist or Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurse) to join the Merri-bek (previously Moreland) Community Team within Northern Health’s Mental Health Division. We are located centrally in Coburg – close to Public Transport and parking options. 

The Merri-bek Community team is a large, supportive and dynamic team made up of staff that are truly passionate and motivated in supporting consumers and their families/carers.

We provide a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Moreland and Hume.

Then Enhanced Support Function utilises a team based assertive outreach approach to each consumer’s clinical care with capped caseloads.

The Clinician within Enhanced Support will work alongside a small number of clinicians to provide high level clinical assessment and intervention to high needs consumers of the Merri-bek Community Team.  

This position involves being the key contact for a small caseload of complex consumers as well as consumers with intensive recovery needs.

The Enhanced Support Function operates within the wider Integrated Community Team.

With support of the Acute function of the team you will provide acute assessment and intervention for these designated consumers when needed. 

This role is predominately a business hours but there is the option of working a small number of shifts with the acute function of the team.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • The appropriate qualifications as a Grade 2 Psychologist, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist or Grade 3 Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
  • At least 5 years experience post qualification
  • Previous experience working in a Community Mental Health team is desirable
  • Passion about contributing positively to the lives of consumers with mental illness and their families
  • Passion about supporting staff and proven leadership skills
  • Experience in the provision of Psychiatric assessment and intervention for consumers with a mental illness  - preferably in a public mental health setting but this is not essential
  • Ability to provide general and discipline specific mental health assessment and intervention
  • Ability to work as part of a team but also able to work autonomously
