About You
- You are a qualified Social Worker eligible for an AASW Registration.
- You have strong interpersonal skills that allow you to develop collaborative relations with clients and colleagues.
- You are flexible in your approach to working with a variety of clients and their families, operating in an individualised way with each person.
- You hold or are willing to obtain a current Working with Children Check, a NDIS Worker Screening Check and/or Police Check prior to commencing, applicable to your state.
- You have a full, unrestricted Australian Driver's Licence and reliable access to a registered, fully insured vehicle.

**Cankids National Outreach Program** aims to deliver Cankids models for Change for Childhood Cancer in India and Holistic family Centered care to children with cancer and their families across the country. NOP strives to go “wider” and “deeper” to achieve the CK vision of global survival rates of 70-95% for childhood cancer in India, and to ensure quality of life for child cancer patients, families and survivors. We aim to
1. to improve Survival Outcomes to global standards,
2. to provide quality of life to the child and family throughout the cancer journey and
3. to secure the Rights of the Health impaired child with cancer to health, education, her childhood, Pain free and palliative care as well as the Right to be heard.
The department delivers, 2 Access to Care models of Cankids
- 4. **Cankids Hospital Support Unit Projects** -Improving Access to Care by partnering with cancer treating centers to provide best standards of treatment care and support for children reaching the center for treatment.
5. **Change for Childhood Cancer State Project** - Improving Access to Care by partnering with State Government and all relevant Stakeholders.
Under the CHSU project the department manages
- 6. Forging partnerships with childhood cancer treating centres to enable best treatment, care and support. We call this projects Cankids Hospital Support Unit Projects.
7. Identifying and Setting Up Cankids Hospital Support Units (CHSU’s) in Centres treating children with cancer and to work with the treating teams (we do feasibility and sign MoUs with the hospital administration)
8. Assessing the gaps each year with the treating team. This could be - manpower (social support team and nurses), services (drug, diagnostics, education, treatment supportive care, psychological, palliative care and survivorship) or capacity building, awareness and support for research.
9. Building budgets annually along with the program departments and resource mobilization raises the funds to support the CHSU project.
10. Ensuring that the programs and services are delivered as per plan and budget to achieve the targets monthly, quarterly and annually.
11. Reporting on the overall progress of the CSHU project and impact created over the years.
12. The NOP teams from field, regional and national level maintains the relation with the treating teams and hospital administration to ensure that the goals of the partnership project are achieved.
**Under the Change for Childhood Cancer State Project the department manages -**
13. To ensure that families get best access to care - through appropriate knowledge of where to go, timely diagnosis and treatment, shared care and continuity of care
14. It works with all relevant stakeholders including State Governments
15. Systematically building a network of access to care and support, creating awareness
16. Advocating for childhood cancer control plans, policies and programs to State Governments
**The Social worker is an essential and integral part of delivery of the programs and services in the CHSU project. The social worker is provided to the treating teams to assist and facilitate social support services to patient families at the center.**
**Typically based on the requirement of the treating team and the number of childhood cancer patients registered at the treating center Cankids provides social workers as under**
17. 1. CHSU with Patient more than 300 should have a team of Social worker, Assistant Social Worker and an Intern/ Assistant Social Worker
18. 2. CHSU with Patient 150- 300 should have a team of Social worker and an Intern/ Assistant Social Worker
19. 3. CHSU with Patient more than 75-150 should have a Social worker.
20. 4. CHSU with patients less than 75 patients should share a social worker in two or more hospital units
21. 5. In case Intern is not available in a hospital unit, ASW will be hired.
**ROLE DESCRIPTION**:
Typically, would do the medical social support and counselling. This includes funding support through Cankids medical support program as per policy and SOP and facilitation through other trusts/ NGOs and government schemes. Form a bridge between the doctors and the patient family - to help manage the treatment plans, queries and treatment issues faced by the family.
**KEY RESULT AREAS**:
1. Complete the initial documentation for registering the patients at the center.
2. Collecting and verifying all the required documents for admitting the new entrant/child.
3. Counsel the family about the treatment, costs and manage the facilitation of funds
4. Regularly consult with the doctor about the child’s treatment and the estimate costs for clarification purposes.
5. Update the database as when a child is adopted or money raised for facilitation for his treatment.
6. To coordinate with the Cankids HQ medical team for patient support as required.
7. To work with the medical team for processing medical bills and vouch

1. Case work
- Rapport building with participants and orientation of participants about the rehabilitation process

- Gathering relevant information on the participants and trace back their families. Plan sessions with the stakeholders associated with participants as per the requirement.

- Discussing with the participants and their families about restoration and in some cases, escorting the participants back home when necessary.
- Follow up with necessary support to alumni participants and provide necessary services in case of emergency.
- Ensuring follow up of physical, mental and sexual health issues are being addressed and attending medical check ups when necessary.
- Supporting legal interventions by conducting meetings and following up with advocates and ensuring court attendance.
- Managing civil/individual identity and important documents of participants.
- To connect the participants with needed and available community resources.
- Creating a personal plan for development on a case-by-case basis including education (formal/informal) or occupational training.

- Filling out intake sheets for the participants and other case related documents online and offline
- Maintaining an inventory of the participants’ belongings and documents when necessary.
- Documenting and updating participants’ medical information, mental health and family restoration plans.
- Attending case management meetings to present cases and give suggestions for other cases.
- Monitoring needs fulfillment and needs development.
- Writing a monthly report of activities to the Case Management Manager
- Documentation of care narrations, rehabilitation and development plans, yearly planning and reporting of visits and meetings.
3. Other tasks
- Informing, guiding and educating participants towards their advancement and growth wherever possible
- Initiating steps to ensure the responsiveness and relevance of policies, procedures, programs or practices on local and external level
- Engaging in research and documenting data pertaining to participants and wider issues.

**Eligibility**:
- 2+ years of experience of working with women and youth from marginalized community
- Understanding of gender-based violence, emotional and physical trauma, marginalization based on caste, gender
- MSW/BSW or combination of relevant experience and education to effectively perform the position’s expectations is preferred
