Job Description: NICU Staff Nurse (Tamil Nadu registration is mandatory)

Roles and Responsibilities

• Provide direct and individualized care to critically ill neonates within the intensive care unit.
• Monitor vital signs and adjust treatments as necessary based on patient conditions and protocols.
• Administer medications and procedures according to physician orders and neonatal protocols.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records concerning care and condition.
• Communicate with family members, offering updates and explaining procedures and outcomes with clarity and compassion.
• Collaborate with medical teams in implementing and executing neonatal care plans and interventions.
• Participate in continuous learning and up-to-date medical practice to improve patient care.
• Educate parents and families on best practices for infant care post-discharge.

Shift Timings: Rotational

• Providing direct care to critically ill newborns in the NICU.
• Monitoring patient vital signs and responding to changes.
• Administering medications and treatments as prescribed.
• Operating and managing life-support equipment (ventilators, incubators).
• Performing specialized nursing procedures for neonates.
• Collaborating with neonatologists and the healthcare team.
• Educating and supporting infant families.
• Maintaining accurate patient documentation.
• Ensuring adherence to infection control protocols.

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) or equivalent.
• Valid nursing license in India.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse, with at least 1-2 years in a NICU or pediatric critical care setting.
• Specialized training or certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required.
• Advanced certifications like Critical Care Neonatal Nurse (CCRN) are highly desirable.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Compassionate and dedicated to infant care.

About the Role:

Join the ACT’s only tertiary-level neonatal service, where innovation meets compassion. The Department of Neonatology offers a dynamic and supportive environment across NICU, SCN, ACT NETS, NAPSS, and the Newborn Growth and Development Clinic. With 36 funded beds and over 750 neonatal admissions annually, we deliver state-of-the-art, family-centred care. As a Registered Nurse new to neonatal care, you’ll be part of a 12-month Neonatal Foundation Program featuring study days, supernumerary shifts, and clinical rotations. By the end of the program, you’ll be confidently caring for premature and sick neonates and their families in both NICU and SCN.
