Below is a description of some of the responsibilities of a boarding house parent during the school term. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list, as the role evolves as per the needs of the students and the school in each calendar year.
**Boarding House Parents Responsibilities**:
- Boarding House Parents are:
- responsible for the student from the time they wake up in the morning. The Boarding House Parents are responsible to ensure that students wake up on time, complete their daily routines.
- responsible to ensure that the students have bathed, cleaned themselves, changed into fresh clothing and are properly and neatly dressed and on time every day.
- responsible to ensure that students brush their teeth in the mornings and after dinner every day.
- responsible to ensure that the students are trained to use the flush (especially for the younger students who may not know how to use these) after using the toilets and to educate them on the need to be clean & hygienic.
- required to be present in the dorms when students are in the dorms. They will attend to the needs of the students in a firm but kind manner at all times.
- required to conduct roll calls of all students in their dormitory both in the morning and evening on all days. Any and all absences at roll call and tardies must be noted right away and the Boarding House Supervisor must be informed immediately.
- responsible to supervise the arrangements for meals for the students under their care, which includes but is not limited to, checking the cutlery and crockery on the tables for cleanliness, tables and chairs at the assigned tables and be present in the dining hall not less than 20 minutes prior to the start of the meal.
- required to be present in the dorm at other times during the day to ensure that the administrative and housekeeping tasks are performed by the dorm nurses, electricians, plumbers, etc as required.
- responsible to oversee and instruct the dorm nurses in their daily duties and to be present in the dorms when the cleaning of rooms and washrooms take place. GSIS has a strong focus on cleanliness and it is the duty of the dorm parent to ensure that the dorms are being cleaned to the highest standards and maintained in perfect order every day.
- responsible to ensure that students do not bring any food items to the dormitory.
- responsible to maintain; and ensure that the students maintain, decorum, a cohesive and congenial attitude towards their dorm mates, and discipline in the dormitory at all times.
- responsible to ensure that students line up / move in an orderly manner before they leave the dorm for prep/class/games etc.
- required to accompany the students as they move from the dorms to the dining hall, roll call, assembly and responsible to bring students back to the dorm.
- required to strictly adhere to the rule that “single children” moving out of the dorm are always accompanied by dorm nurses until they return to the dorm.
- required to maintain the student health register for their dorm and send it to the hospital everyday.
- responsible to ensure that students do not come to the dormitory during class hours except prior to swimming lessons.
- responsible to ensure that if parents come to meet the students, the student is sent to meet the parents in neat clothes, after a bath or a good wash, and to the reception at the time indicated.
- responsible to check the students’ cupboards to ensure they possess all the required toiletries and other articles required by the student.
- responsible for the appointment of dormitory leaders.
- responsible to ensure that during bad weather such as rainy days, the students are sent to classes with their raincoats, cap and gum boots on (this is particularly for the Jr. School)
- responsible to make sure that all students change their uniforms on the assigned days.
- responsible to make sure that students do not exchange/wear one another’s clothes
- responsible to check and make sure that the students do not keep snacks, pens, pencils, etc., in the dormitory or under their mattress or pillows.
- responsible for the safe custody of students’ belongings in the dorms. It would be a good idea for the boarding house parent to teach the students how to be responsible for their own belongings as well.
- responsible to make sure that soiled clothes, footwear etc are not kept inside the trunk or cupboards.
- responsible to make sure that student uniform items are kept in good condition - for example, black shoes are polished daily and kept on the shoe rack before students go for games.

Responsibilities of Parent Engagement Manager
**Parent information and understanding**
Updates parent information in applane, including transportation, uniform, books and deliverables.
Executes parent surveys under the guidance of the marketing team
Collects and maintains all demographic data of existing and new leads
Identifies key influencers and detractors in the parent community and ensures they are handled with special care and sensitivity required to convert them into ambassadors
Parent Communication (Inward)
Uses a ticketing system to ensure all such concerns, complaints, compliments and feedback are handled effectively, efficiently, and promptly.
Liaisons with respective teams (admin and academic team) within the school (or HO if required) to resolve the complaints, queries answered, and suggestions acknowledged.
Becomes the first point of contact for all LCs. Own the LC process, including exit interviews and retention by meeting the parent and arranging meetings with the Principal/ Admin Head of the school
Parent Communication (Outward) and Engagement
Acts as a single point of contact for all communication happening between the school and the parent
Manages and executes all day-to-day processes of sending all types of communications to parents from the school
Responsible for the correct and timely communication, including validating and getting drafts approved before sending
Creates and maintains a calendar for all parent communication throughout the year
Creates and executes communication processes for sending prior reminders for fee payments and reminders to defaulters
