Position: House Parent (Male) for Boy's Hostel / Boarding House
Location: Faridabad, NCR, India
House Parents at a Sancta Maria International School are responsible for overseeing the well-being, academic progress, and overall development of young learners under their care in the school's boarding houses. Each House Parent is responsible for creating a nurturing and structured environment where students feel safe, supported, and encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. The House Parent will be expected to be a mentor, guardian, and guide for the resident students, ensuring that they are nurtured into responsible global citizens who are committed to the values and ethos of the school. House Parents will report to the Head of School.
Key Responsibilities:
Pastoral Care:
Provide emotional support, guidance, and care to all boarders, ensuring their well-being, a sense of community and inclusion within the house.
Address issues such as homesickness, peer conflicts, or other personal challenges faced by resident learners.
Liaise with parents or guardians regularly to provide updates on their child's progress and welfare.
Daily Supervision:
Ensure the day-to-day routine of the boarding house concerned (e.g., wake-up calls, mealtimes, study hours, bedtime, etc.) is maintained with care.
Supervise students during leisure times and extracurricular activities.
Ensure students adhere to the boarding house's rules and maintain discipline while being committed to universal values, appreciative of multiple perspectives that are integral to thriving in a multicultural and global society.
Academic Support:
Monitor academic progress and provide encouragement, support, and direction.
Coordinate with academic staff to ensure students are keeping up with their studies.
Organise and monitor study sessions within the boarding house regularly and as required.
Hostel Management:
Oversee the cleanliness, safety, and general upkeep of the boarding house and use school resources judiciously.
Report any maintenance or safety issues to the Sr General Manager – Administration, and to the Head of School, as appropriate.
Work with other staff to ensure the house is well-organised and welcoming.
Extracurricular Involvement:
Encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, and cultural programs.
Occasionally organise and supervise trips, activities, or events for the boarding house students.
Ensure that resident students under his care have opportunities to grow and develop their talents, while having an exceptional boarding experience.
Health and Safety:
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the school's health and safety policies and procedures.
Ensure that the physical and emotional safety and health needs of the students are met, including provision of first aid when necessary, and coordinate well with the infirmary staff, wellbeing counsellors and academic staff to ensure the best possible outcomes at all stages.
Manage emergencies (e.g., medical issues, disciplinary situations, etc.) responsibly, calmly and efficiently.
Behaviour Management:
Be a role model and set high standards of personal conduct.
Implement appropriate disciplinary measures and manage behavioural issues when they arise.
Encourage positive behaviour and foster a respectful, cooperative atmosphere within the house.
Key Requirements
Bachelor's degree or above
Experience working with children and adolescents, preferably in a boarding or residential setting.
Strong pastoral care and counselling skills.
Understanding of well-being and safeguarding principles and concerns. Additional relevant certification in these areas desirable.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a multicultural environment.
Organisational and leadership skills.
A background in education and counselling is desirable.
Knowledge of child safeguarding and protection policies and law too is desirable.
Empathy, patience, and the ability to connect and build strong relationships with young people.
High levels of integrity, reliability, and responsibility.
Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a diverse environment.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle emergencies.
