Job Description:
The QA/QC Engineer – Mechanical/Piping will be responsible for ensuring quality standards and compliance across mechanical systems and piping installations in construction projects. This role involves overseeing the activities of General Contractors (GCs) and third-party QA/QC agencies, ensuring adherence to project specifications, codes, and industry standards. The engineer will conduct inspections, review documentation, and verify corrective/preventive actions to maintain the highest level of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and ensure quality compliance of mechanical systems (e.g., HVAC, chillers, boilers, compressors) and piping works (e.g., process piping, utility piping, welding).
- Review and approve Inspection Test Plans (ITPs), method statements, and material approvals in accordance with project specifications and ISO standards.
- Conduct site inspections, audits and surveillance to ensure compliance with specifications, drawings, and standards.
- Monitor NCRs and SORs and ensure timely closure of issues.
- Ensure proper documentation of quality records – inspection reports, test results, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports), method statements, and material approvals. Verify documentation and maintain quality records for compliance and handover.
- Regularly collaborate with design, GCs, and project management teams to resolve quality issues.
- Support root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions for quality issues.
- Review contractor and supplier submittals related to mechanical and piping systems.
Skills & Qualification
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical discipline.
- 5+ years of QA/QC experience in large-scale industrial or semiconductor construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of ASME, API, and other mechanical/piping codes and standards.
- Working knowledge of industrial mechanical systems like HVAC, chillers, Scrubbers, compressors etc.
- Knowledge of piping materials (carbon steel, stainless steel, alloy steel, HDPE, PVC, etc.)
- Understanding of material specifications, traceability, and certification requirements.
- Understanding of P&IDs, piping layouts, and 3D models.
- Familiarity with QA/QC processes, inspection procedures and reporting.
- Excellent MS-Office skills – PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Vizio etc.
- Familiarity with Power BI, Spotfire or similar data analysis programs.
- Strong data analysis, troubleshooting, teamwork, and communication skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high-paced multi-cultural environment.
- Ability to identify gaps and create/modify processes and procedures in accordance with Tata Electronics requirements and/or any relevant Code requirements.
