Role Overview
As Plant Manager, you will be responsible for end-to-end operations — from pit (drilling, blasting, loading, haulage) to plant (crushing, screening, stockpile management, dispatch). The role requires strong hands-on leadership to achieve production, quality, cost, and safety targets.
Responsibilities and Specific Tasks
Mines Operation Management
- Prepare daily and weekly pit plans based on monthly production targets and plant feed requirements (tonnage and grade).
- Verify benching, berms, and haul-road condition each shift; enforce pit geometry as per mining plan.
- Coordinate drilling and blasting schedules with drilling engineers and blasting supervisor; approve blast patterns and timings.
- Supervise loading and haulage scheduling (excavator/dumper coordination) to ensure uninterrupted Run-of-Mine material supply.
- Inspect and manage Run-of-Mine material stockpiles; ensure correct segregation and stacking to avoid grade mixing.
- Implement sampling and quality checks at Run-of-Mine material and transfer points; perform sieve analysis and visual checks as required.
- Enforce explosives handling SOPs; ensure only certified personnel handle blasting activities.
- Maintain statutory and environmental records related to mining operations.
Crushing Plant Operation Management
- Prepare daily crushing plan (product mix and tonnage) aligned to sales orders and pit feed.
- Monitor and adjust crusher settings, screen mesh (sieve) condition, conveyor speeds and feed distribution to achieve the required gradation.
- Control stockpile rotation (FIFO) and ensure purchase accuracy (weighbridge tickets, documentation).
- Conduct regular sieve analysis and ensure product meets specification before dispatch.
- Monitor real-time production KPIs: crusher load, throughput (tph), screen efficiency, and reject rates; adjust machine parameters and shift allocations to optimise throughput.
- Lead root-cause analysis for recurring throughput or quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Operation Management and Coordination
- Maintain rolling 7-day and 30-day production plan linking Mines, Plant, Dispatch and Sales. Operation Management and Coordination.

- Check and analyse quality issues and variations, find the root cause, and put corrective actions in place.

- Enforce use of PPE and safe work practices across the quarry and plant.
- Conduct daily safety checks and toolbox talks with teams.

- Prepare annual and quarterly budgets for fuel, explosives, maintenance and manpower; track actuals versus forecasts.
- Generate operation-level financial reports for management (cost per tonne, key variances).
- Conduct weekly cost-per-tonne analysis; identify variances and lead cost-reduction initiatives (energy savings, fuel optimisation.
Maintenance
- Enforce preventive maintenance schedules and coordinate planned shutdowns with maintenance.
- Maintain spares inventory for critical items (bearings, belts, screen media, teeth).
- Evaluate major asset replacement versus refurbishment; prepare CapEx proposals with ROI analysis and payback projections.
- Implement a preventive maintenance program: schedule daily inspections, weekly servicing, and monthly overhauls.
- Track equipment reliability metrics (MTBF, MTTR); prioritise and oversee corrective repairs to minimise downtime.
People Leadership and Development
- Recruit, onboard, and train new team members with clear role definitions.
