Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Plant Manager to oversee all aspects of our BSFL processing facility operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the complete bioconversion process, from organic waste input to high-value protein output, ensuring optimal production efficiency, quality standards, safety compliance, and environmental sustainability. This role requires expertise in biotechnology processes, manufacturing operations, and sustainable production methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
BSFL Production Management
Bioconversion Process Oversight:
· Manage the complete BSFL lifecycle from egg hatching to larval harvesting and processing
· Oversee breeding unit operations including adult fly mating, egg production, and larvae nursery management
· Monitor and optimize waste pre-processing operations including organic waste sorting, grinding, and formulation
· Ensure proper larvae feeding, growth monitoring, and harvesting at optimal developmental stages
· Supervise post-processing activities including larvae drying, protein extraction, and packaging
Production Planning & Optimization:
· Develop and execute production schedules to meet customer demand for animal feed products
· Optimize bioconversion efficiency targeting 50-80% waste reduction and 20% biomass conversion
· Manage production capacity planning and resource allocation across different production lines
· Implement lean manufacturing principles to minimize waste and maximize protein yield
· Coordinate with quality control teams to ensure 60%+ protein content in final products
Process Control & Monitoring:
· Maintain optimal environmental conditions including temperature (25-30°C), humidity (60-70%), and pH levels
· Monitor larvae growth rates, feed conversion ratios, and mortality percentages
· Implement process control systems for automated monitoring and adjustment
· Ensure proper waste-to-protein conversion ratios and product consistency
· Manage production data collection and analysis for continuous improvement
Quality Assurance & Compliance
Product Quality Management:
· Ensure final products meet specifications for aquaculture, poultry, and pet food applications
· Implement quality control protocols for protein content, nutritional value, and safety parameters
· Manage testing procedures for essential amino acids, calcium, iron, and B-complex vitamins
· Oversee contamination control and maintain sterile processing environments
· Coordinate with laboratories for regular product testing and certification
Regulatory Compliance:
· Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, FSSAI guidelines, and animal feed standards
· Maintain documentation for organic certification and sustainable production practices
· Implement HACCP principles and maintain GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices)
· Coordinate with regulatory authorities for inspections and compliance audits
· Manage environmental compliance including waste discharge and emission standards
Operations & Team Management
Facility Operations:
· Oversee daily plant operations including production, maintenance, and logistics
· Manage utility systems including power, water, ventilation, and waste treatment
· Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for bioconversion equipment and infrastructure
· Ensure optimal plant layout for efficient workflow and contamination prevention
· Manage inventory of organic waste feedstock, processing materials, and finished products
Team Leadership:
· Lead multidisciplinary teams including production staff, technicians, quality control personnel, and maintenance workers
· Provide training on BSFL biology, processing techniques, and safety protocols
· Conduct performance evaluations and career development planning for team members
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation in sustainable production
· Manage workforce planning and recruitment for specialized biotechnology roles
Safety & Environmental Management:
· Implement comprehensive safety protocols for biological and chemical hazards
· Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment and safety training programs
· Manage waste treatment systems and environmental impact minimization
· Coordinate emergency response procedures and incident investigation
· Maintain occupational health standards and worker safety compliance
Business Performance & Strategy
Financial Management:
· Manage plant budget including operational expenses, capital investments, and cost optimization
· Monitor key performance indicators including production costs, yield rates, and profitability
· Implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining product quality and safety standards
· Coordinate with procurement teams for raw material sourcing and vendor management
· Prepare financial reports and variance analysis for management review
Technology & Innovation:
· Stay current with BSFL technology advancements and industry best practices
· Evaluate and implement new processing technologies and automation systems
· Collaborate with R&D teams for product development and process improvements
· Manage technology transfer from pilot scale to commercial production
· Drive digital transformation initiatives including IoT monitoring and data analytics
Customer & Stakeholder Relations:
· Coordinate with sales teams to meet customer specifications and delivery schedules
· Manage customer audits and facility tours for aquaculture, poultry, and pet food clients
· Maintain relationships with organic waste suppliers and feedstock providers
· Coordinate with logistics teams for product distribution and supply chain optimization
· Represent company at industry conferences and sustainability forums
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
· Master's degree in Biotechnology, Food Technology, Chemical Engineering, or related field
· Minimum 8-12 years of experience in manufacturing/processing plant management
· Previous experience in biotechnology, food processing, or agricultural industries preferred
· Experience with biological process control and fermentation/bioconversion technologies
· Knowledge of insect farming, aquaculture feed, or animal nutrition industries advantageous
Technical Competencies
BSFL & Biotechnology Knowledge:
