The Power Generation Analyst will support a broad range of studies and services to support power producers in making decisions backed by business and engineering analysis, such as condition assessments, asset due diligence and acquisition support, cost and performance benchmarking, feasibility studies, project development support including technology evaluations and site selection, asset management, decommissioning/demolition studies, and other power generation studies.
**Responsibilities:**
The Analyst will assist the project managers and lead aspects of project execution including analysis and engineering, schedule and deliverables, and quality management. The Analyst will support and lead both on-the-job and classroom training efforts for less experienced team members.
Assist project managers in the execution of projects. Lead aspects of project execution including data collection; engineering, financial, and technical analysis; maintain project schedule; develop key project deliverables including analysis, reports, and presentations; support the project manager in quality control of deliverables; analyze and communicate project status, risks, schedule, to project managers; assist in leading multi-discipline teams of engineers and analysts; plan, organize, and communicate project personnel needs to project and department management.
**Qualifications**

    Our T&D Power Systems team assists clients in achieving compliance and efficiency by conducting power systems studies to navigate the design, grid connection and access standards for their energy generation and transmission projects. You will become part of a global, tight-knit team of power systems engineers engaged in diverse projects supporting multiple type of international interconnection and grid connection projects (including solar, wind, hydro, battery energy storage, and HVDC interconnectors).
    Our team also provides technical assistance to Transmission Grid Operators (TSOs) and utilities, helping the private sector secure crucial grid investments through expert technical support.     Responsibility:

  • Conduct advanced power system studies (steady-state load flow, short-circuit, and dynamic stability analyses) for generation grid connection projects and transmission planning studies (feasibility and design stages). Projects will be primarily across Asia-Pacific, but also in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Australia. 
  • Perform detailed power system modeling and simulations for grid integration of converter-based resources, including high-voltage direct current (HVDC) systems, renewable energy plants (solar and wind), and battery energy storage systems. Analyze their impact on the transmission network, focusing on feasibility studies and compliance with grid requirements.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical study reports for a range of clients (energy project developers, utilities, TSOs), from high-level grid connection feasibility studies to in-depth static and dynamic study reports. Ensure findings are clearly communicated and meet the relevant standards and client expectations. 
  • Conduct complex assessments and provide specialist solutions on power system issues. This may include performing generator or converter model validations, stability improvement strategies, and proposing mitigation measures for network constraints. You will also deliver technical presentations and training to internal teams and external clients, sharing knowledge on topics such as HVDC integration, grid stability, and emerging technologies ( HVDC links, STATCOMs, and grid-forming inverter technologies).
  • Contribute to project execution by leading or coordinating complex study tasks, especially those involving converter-based resources. 
  • Deliver high-quality outputs within agreed formats and timelines. As a senior engineer, review and validate the work of junior engineers when necessary, providing mentorship and technical guidance to uphold quality and accuracy. 
  • Engage in continuous professional development and industry activities. This includes attending or presenting at conferences, participating in industry forums, and staying up to date with the latest developments in power system simulation tools and grid integration technologies to continually enhance our service offerings.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related field).
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in power system modeling and analysis for grid connections and transmission projects. This should include hands-on experience with generation interconnection feasibility studies, transmission planning, and network stability assessments, ideally in a utility/TSO or power engineering consultancy environment.
  • Proven knowledge and experience on performing complex transmission power system studies such as: steady state analysis, short circuit analysis, transient stability analysis, generator model validation. Any additional experience on the following fields is beneficial: electromagnetic transient (EMT) simulations, cable design, protection coordination and relay settings studies, harmonic analysis, small signal stability, adequacy studies and probabilistic approaches.
  • Proven experience in modeling and integrating HVDC systems and inverter-based resources into transmission networks, with a focus on assessing their feasibility and impact on grid stability. Familiarity with emerging grid-forming converter technologies and their application in renewable energy integration is beneficial.
  • Experience working closely with or within transmission utilities/TSOs on interconnection projects or advanced grid studies ( cross-border interconnectors, renewable energy integration, large-scale battery storage projects).
  • Familiar with international grid codes and standards ( IEC, IEEE) relevant to
    transmission planning and grid connection requirements.
  • Strong proficiency in power system simulation software Siemens PSSE is essential.
    Experience with additional power system analysis tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory
    and/or PSCAD (in particular for electromagnetic transient studies or detailed converter
    modeling). Ability to automate studies using Python scripting is beneficial. 
  • Ability to manage tasks effectively under time and resource constraints, delivering results
    with good quality even under pressure. 
  • Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken), as this role involves liaising
    with international teams and clients. 
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent credentials in any of the abovementioned
    countries is an advantage (but not required).

The Power Division focuses on power generating facilities which offer a wide range of design and project execution experiences. Designs include the electrical interconnect to the bulk power grid and all associated power generating facility auxiliary power equipment. Equipment includes rotating machines, such as generators and motors, large power transformers, generator circuit breakers, isolated phase bus duct, non-segregated phase bus duct, switchgear, motor control centers, small power transformers, and variable frequency drives. The wide range of projects provide opportunities on both multi-discipline and electrical only projects.
    Multi-disciplined power generation projects require engineers to work in a diverse project team environment and exhibit the ability to develop consensus in identifying the optimum solution to complex problems. These complex assignments require the application of advanced techniques, resulting in the development of new or improved processes, equipment and/or technological methods. Position will require extensive interface with equipment suppliers/vendors, and with Burns & McDonnell project managers, other engineering disciplines, modelers, designers, and detailers locally in the Mumbai office as well as remotely in various offices in the United States.
    For a Mid Level Electrical Power Systems Engineer, following are some specific duties & responsibilities:
    1. Coordinating project design assignments with client and within teams
    2. Electrical system Power Systems modeling including grounding, load flow, short-circuit, and arc-flash analysis, using software like ETAP, SKM, Easypower, CDEGS, WinIGS etc
    3. Protective relay setting development, calculation, and coordination studies, relay logics for microprocessor based relays

Must be capable of interpreting and developing solutions to complex problems.
