**Job Summary**
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented **Purchasing Specialist** to join our new plant in **Pune, India** . This role will be responsible for cost-effective procurement of assigned materials and services to support both plant start-up and ongoing operations.
In **Phase I** , the focus will be on **import purchasing** , including sourcing from global suppliers, managing import documentation, and ensuring compliance with customs and regulatory requirements. As the plant ramps up, the Purchasing Specialist will expand responsibilities to include more **local sourcing, supplier development, and ongoing material management** .
The Purchasing Specialist will work closely with engineering, operations, logistics, and suppliers to secure high-quality materials and services that meet production and new product development needs, while driving cost efficiency and operational excellence.
**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**
These duties are not all-inclusive; other duties may be assigned.
+ **Phase I - Import Purchasing** : Manage international supplier sourcing, import documentation, shipping, and customs compliance to ensure timely material availability for the new plant.
+ **Plant Procurement Support** : Ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing to support production, maintenance, and plant operations in Pune.
+ **Supplier Management** : Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, ensuring performance in delivery, quality, and cost.
+ **Cross-Functional Collaboration** : Work with Engineering, Operations, and IPD Purchasing Specialists to align purchasing activities with production schedules and new product development requirements.
+ **Negotiation** : Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts with suppliers to achieve cost savings and long-term value.
+ **Systems & Data** : Maintain accurate lead times, purchase orders, and supplier data in procurement systems.
+ **Process Improvement** : Identify and implement improvements in procurement efficiency, including digital tools such as EDI or barcoding.
+ **Compliance** : Ensure all purchasing activities adhere to company policies, business controls, and applicable import/export regulations.
**Basic Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree.
+ 5+ years of purchasing, supply chain, or related experience.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience with **import purchasing, international logistics, and customs compliance** .
