Job Purpose:
The School of Digital Media and Communication (SDMC) is a full-fledged media school equipped with advanced studios, field equipment, and supporting infrastructure including:
- A main studio floor with lighting grid and PCR,
- An audio studio floor with PCR and booth,
- Two smaller studios for mobile journalism and AR-VR production.
The Studio Assistant will play a critical role in managing these facilities and ensuring their smooth operation. This role involves maintaining the studio and field equipment, overseeing inventory, scheduling, and supporting academic and production activities. The Studio Assistant will also provide technical guidance to students, production assistance to faculty, and document departmental activities through audiovisual media.
Additionally, the Studio Assistant may be required to support production-related tasks at campus events and ensure all audiovisual material is properly archived and retrievable when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Equipment & Inventory Management
- Serve as the custodian of all studio-related and field equipment.
- Manage proper issuance and return procedures, ensuring accountability and care.
- Conduct periodic checks to identify issues, coordinate repairs, and maintain operational readiness.
- Maintain an updated and organized inventory of all audiovisual equipment.
2. Studio Coordination & Production Support
- Collaborate with faculty to plan and execute practical lab activities and studio sessions.
- Assist with setup, dismantling, and operation of equipment during sessions.
- Provide production assistance and basic technical troubleshooting during classes or events.
3. Documentation & Archiving
- Capture high-quality photos and videos of departmental activities, events, and productions.
- Develop and maintain a well-organized digital archive for future reference and academic use.
- Ensure proper documentation and retrieval processes for audiovisual material produced within SDMC.
4. Administrative & Safety Complianc e
- Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for studio usage.
- Schedule sessions efficiently and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Provide essential administrative support for smooth departmental operations.
5. Communication & Collaboration
- Act as a point of contact for faculty, students, and staff regarding studio-related matters.
- Address and resolve technical issues in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
- Foster a conducive and professional working environment within the studios.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s diploma or degree in Audiovisual Technology, Media Production, Studio Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience managing audiovisual equipment, studio operations, or laboratory settings (preferably in an academic institution).
- Hands-on operational knowledge of digital still and video cameras, studio lights, PCR, and related equipment.
- Understanding of safety protocols related to studio and lab environments.
Preferred Skills and Attributes:
- Familiarity with multimedia documentation and archiving practices.

Qualifications:

- Experience: 2+ years of experience in a studio environment, production role, or a similar field.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with (list specific equipment, e.g., DSLR/Mirrorless cameras, studio lighting, soundboards, Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere Pro, etc.), DaVinci Resolve, Pro Tools, etc.).
- Strong technical troubleshooting abilities.
- Familiarity with studio-specific software and booking systems.
- Soft Skills:
