Job Description
About Us:
We are a fast-growing Indian startup focused on developing innovative sensor-based systems for cutting-edge applications. We are very strong on materials, electrochemistry, physics, pure sciences and have deep engagement and understanding of our customer’s requirements. Competing against the other global behemoths, we have carved a niche for our Hydrogen Sensor product line in the international market with our patented technologies. Our mission is to progress our cutting edge electrochemical sensing technologies on bulk level as well as a MEMS platform (close engagement with premier research institutions in India). We’re looking for a passionate and self-driven Lead Electrochemical Sensor Engineer to join our dynamic team and take ownership of the next generation of solid state electrochemical sensors. The candidate will have to work closely with cross functional teams covering the disciples of Systems and Application Development and AFE SoC Chip Design. The Company has recently secured a healthy Seed Round of funding and has also been approved for the Design Linked Incentive scheme of MeitY, which shall fuel our next stage of growth.
Role Overview:
We are seeking a Lead Electrochemical Sensor Engineer with 10 to 15 years of deep technical experience in the design, development, and optimisation of electrochemical gas sensors. The ideal candidate must bring very high domain expertise in electrode systems (2-, 3-, and 4-electrode configurations), electronic signal interpretation and materials, catalyst, electro-catalysts handling and selection. The candidate must have a proven ability to drive and optimise sensor performance through temperature, pressure, and relative humidity (RH%) compensation techniques.
This is a senior R&D role for a highly skilled technologist capable of leading the development of high-performance, application-specific electrochemical sensors used in industrial and safety-critical environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the architecture and development of 2-, 3-, and 4-electrode electrochemical sensors
- Drive material and electrode design grounded in a deep understanding of electrochemical reactions, half-cell behavior, and materials chemistry
- Create and implement sensor compensation strategies for temperature, barometric pressure, and relative humidity (RH%) — ensuring accuracy in real-world environments
- Conduct and analyse advanced electrochemical characterisation (CV, EIS, chronoamperometry, potentiometry, cycling voltammetry, impedance analysis, etc.)
- Guide mechanical integration and collaborate with mechanical design, electronics and firmware teams to close the loop from chemistry to circuit and finally a sellable product.
- Shape the direction of next-gen sensor platforms, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to IP and product excellence
- Prepare technical documentation, support IP filings, and contribute to certification and reliability efforts.
What we are looking for?
- Ph.D. or M.Tech in Electrochemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in electrochemical gas sensor development in an industrial or applied research setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in:
- 2-, 3-, and 4-electrode sensor architectures
- Electrochemical reaction modelling and half-cell analysis
- Advanced materials chemistry for sensing electrodes and electrolytes
- Deep understanding of temperature, pressure, and RH% compensation strategies
- Experience in mechanical packaging, environmental sealing, and integration with electronics.
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills with electronics, firmware, and manufacturing teams.
- Proven ability to lead technical work streams and mentor junior engineers.
Nice to have:
- Background in hydrogen or industrial gas sensing applications.
- Experience with MEMS-based electrochemical sensor integration.
- Familiarity with ISO, IEC, or automotive reliability and qualification standards.
- Track record of publications, patents, or commercialized sensor products
