Job Description

HawkEye 360 is seeking a Spacecraft Assembly Technician to join the Space Team. The mission of the Space Systems Engineering group is to build, test, launch, operate and maintain a constellation of small commercial satellites. The Space Systems group is also responsible for operating a segment of groundstations to provide communications with these satellites. The satellite clusters and ground segments provide the platform for RF data collection that is essential to HawkEye’s core business.

HawkEye 360 is looking for a candidate that can quickly interpret complex assembly instructions, work delicately with numerous sensitive spacecraft components, and can accurately document their work.

As the Spacecraft Assembly Technician, your main responsibilities will be:
  • Perform assembly and integration of flight hardware at all stages of spacecraft development from subsystems up through the full payload and spacecraft bus
  • Clearly document your work through notes within the procedures and photographs of each step you have performed
  • Be able to interpret engineering schematics or drawings to be able to help troubleshoot issues that may arise
  • Quickly communicate problems or questions as they occur to other members of the team
  • Layout and assemble electronic ground support equipment (EGSE) that will be used to test flight hardware in our lab
  • Be comfortable working in a cleanroom environment
  • Be comfortable working around electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive hardware
  • Work independently to complete given assignments within the schedule given and ask questions when more information is needed or not all details were given
  • Occasionally travel for launch site integration and testing campaigns as needed
  • Your skills and qualifications:
    Essential education and experience:
  • Minimum of a high school diploma
  • 2 years of hardware/electronics assembly experience or equivalent education and training
  • Hands-on experience with aerospace hardware
  • Familiarity working with wire harnesses (wire stripping, crimping, pinning, routing, continuity testing, etc…)
  • Understanding of electronics lab environments including ESD mitigation and cleanroom protocols
  • Basic hand tool knowledge as well as familiarization with some power tools
  • An ability to react to changing priorities as directed, sometimes daily
  • A good attitude, team-oriented spirit, and dedication to getting the job done
  • Desirable:
  • Hands on experience with spacecraft (payload, bus, subsystems, etc…) hardware
  • Experience working with electrical harnesses and an understanding of the different kinds of connectors used within the aerospace industry
  • Experience soldering PCB assemblies
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office software
  • Experience with Linux operating system and running commands within the terminal application
  • A curious outlook – willingness to learn new things and solutions to fit the problem
  • Base Salary Range:  $70,000 - $115,000 annually

  • Design and test of the next generation of our spacecraft buses & RF collection payloads.
  • Develop hardware unit tests and associated support equipment, for both unit level and full system integration tests of our payloads and satellite buses.
  • Search for new innovative hardware solutions that can enhance our RF collection platform.
  • Take a hands-on role with assembly, integration and test of our RF payload hardware, and production of the spacecraft.
  • Your skills and qualifications:
    Essential education and experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • High level of proficiency with Printed Circuit Boards, for schematic capture, layout, and manufacturing for fabrication and assembly with Contract Manufacturers.
  • High level of proficiency with power electronics design, high speed digital electronics design, and a basic level of proficiency with RF circuit design.
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board design using Altium.
  • Experience with electronic lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, Logic Analyzers, etc).
  • Basic experience developing software for embedded hardware control especially in Python or C++.
  • A passion for completing a job well - attention to detail.
  • A good attitude and team-oriented spirit.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience developing flight hardware for small satellites, and an understanding of best practices for flight hardware design.
  • Experience in the Space industry especially with small satellites, including environmental testing (Thermal, TVAC, Vibe).
  • Experience with RF electronics, and RF lab equipment (Spectrum Analyzers, Network Analyzers, Signal Generators, etc.)
  • Experience with Software Defined Radio.
  • Experience with automated electronics testing including SCPI and other industry standard protocols .
  • Experience with version control, specifically git

    As a Spacecraft Electrical AIT Engineer , you will lead the integration and testing of spacecraft electrical systems , ensuring end-to-end system readiness for launch. This is a hands-on engineering role focused on the validation of complex, highly integrated electronic systems used in space missions.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Create and manage all test documentation including test matrices, procedures, scripts, and final reports
    • Oversee electrical AIT (Assembly, Integration & Test) processes in collaboration with Quality Control (QC)
    • Define and prepare Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) requirements
    • Support and participate in environmental tests (TVAC, Vibration, Acoustic, EMI/EMC) at the satellite level
    • Manage non-conformance and anomaly investigations , proposing corrective actions
    • Support pre-launch activities and launch campaigns (typically 5–8 weeks)
    • Maintain compliance with ISO 14644-1 cleanroom standards
    • Ensure all activities are completed within defined timelines and resources

    Must-Have Skills
    • Proficient with electrical tools and test aids (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, breakout boxes )
    • Strong understanding of electrical signal characterization
    • Experience working with EGSE and spacecraft connector mating/demating
    • Capable of writing test procedures, non-conformance reports , and automation scripts
    • Working proficiency in English , both written and spoken

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Support future spacecraft bus architecture strategy for our next generation of RF collection payloads.
  • Take ownership of constellation designs, and systems engineering of commercial constellation ensuring all systems meet design and operational requirements.
  • Support requirements collections from customers and product team, and flow-down those requirements to mission, sub-system, and unit-level.

  • Experience building and/or operating small satellites (initial requirements gathering, design, assembly, environmental testing, launch, commissioning, operations).
  • Experience programming in at least on high-level programming language such as python
  • Experience with a spacecraft mission analysis tool such as STK, GMAT, OREKit, or FreeFlier
  • Good analytical and strategic skills, with excellent written and presentation abilities.
  • Desirable:
  • Experience handling expensive electronic components (ESD and Cleanroom best practices).
  • Experience with environmental testing (Thermal and Vacuum Chambers, Vibe Tables, etc.)
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board design using Altium.
  • Familiarity with orbital mechanics and/or attitude dynamics
