- Strong knowledge in post-deployment configurations & best practices.

- Experience is Automated DB Installation using Configuration Management tools like Ansible

- Experience is configuring the CI/CD pipeline to east the workflow of DBA tasks.

- Knowledge in writing PowerShell scripts for MSSQL administrative tasks.

- Experience in DB Migrations in heterogeneous DB Engine environments.

- Linux navigation knowledge for MySQL & Postgres deployments.

- Experience in Disaster Management solutions and deployments.

- Experience in configuration Load balancing solutions like Replication.

- Experience in Database Backup solutions.

- Exploring the new features in the latest or standard DB Versions.

- Maintaining the documentation like Inventory, Installation procedures, etc.

- Readiness to work in shifts

Roles and Responsibilities

• Should have good knowledge on MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, MariaDB, IBM Db2
• Able to Choose the right hardware and software for the database, considering factors such as the size of the database, the number of users, and the performance requirements.
• Configure the database for the company's needs, including creating user accounts, granting permissions, and setting up database parameters.
• Perform regular maintenance on the database servers, such as patching the operating system and database software, applying security updates, and backing up the database.
• Monitor the performance and health of the database servers and troubleshoot and resolve any issues that arise.
• Develop and implement backup as well as recovery plans / jobs that meets the company's data recovery requirements, considering factors such as the frequency of backups, the type of backups, and the retention period for backups.
• Develop a recovery plan to restore databases in the event of a failure, considering factors such as the type of failure, the recovery time objective (RTO), and the recovery point objective (RPO).
• Set up database monitoring tools to track key performance metrics, such as CPU usage, disk I/O, memory usage, and query execution times.
• Analyze database performance data to identify trends and patterns, and to identify any areas where performance is suboptimal.
• Investigate the root cause of performance issues, such as slow queries, inefficient indexes, and database bottlenecks.
• Implement tuning solutions to improve database performance, such as rewriting inefficient queries, creating new indexes, and adjusting database parameters. Perform other database maintenance tasks, such as defragmenting indexes and shrinking databases.
• Monitor database usage and audit database activity to identify suspicious activity.
• Develop and implement database security standards and procedures, covering areas such as password management, data encryption, and access control.
• Work with developers to fix database design or code issues that are causing problems.
• Create and maintain database indexes to improve the performance of database queries.

Requirements

Technologies

• 2-6 years of experience with Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Development, or related field.
• Database Administration Certification in any one of the following databases: Oracle, MS-SQL, MySQL, Postgres
• A minimum of 2 years hands-on experience as a DBA in one or more of the above Database technologies. MS-SQL DBA experience shall be preferred. 
• Working knowledge of AWS DB technologies like RDS shall be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of Cloud computing/Elastic computing across virtualized environments shall be a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and high level of personal integrity.
• Good organizational skills.

Role Responsibilities: 

As an MS SQL Database Administrator, you will support the establishment and ongoing management of infrastructure managed services for the client. Your responsibilities will include: 

Service Establishment & Transition: 

• Assist in gathering and reviewing information related to the implementation and operation of the client’s existing MS SQL database environments. 

• Participate in workshops to understand existing MS SQL platforms and prepare for database operations transition. 

• Contribute to the creation of key database operations documentation (e.g., System Understanding Documents, Standard Operating Procedures). 

• Support the team in ensuring readiness for database operations go-live in line with the service establishment plan and schedule. 

Ongoing Database Administration & Operations: 

• Perform routine MS SQL DBA tasks, including: 

• Monitoring and health checks 

• Database backups 

• Performance tuning and management 

• Availability and capacity management 

• Installation, configuration, and patching 

• Routine administration and maintenance 

• Resolving production and non-production incidents with minimal downtime or performance impact 

• Managing backlog of database-related tickets and service requests 

• Maintain comprehensive documentation for database platforms, processes, and procedures. 

• Support efforts to align database operations with DevOps and Agile principles. 

• Assist in automating database management and operational tasks. 

• Collaborate with other DBAs and infrastructure teams (compute, storage, network, datacentre, and public cloud). 

• Ensure security best practices are followed to meet federal government compliance standards. 

• Stay updated with industry trends and technologies to contribute to continuous improvement and innovation. 

• Provide input on current database platforms for public cloud migration projects. 

• Knowledge of Oracle database administration desirable, but not a requirement 

Qualifications: 

• Around 4 years of experience in MS SQL database administration, both on-premises and in public cloud (preferably Azure). 

• Proven experience in managing and maintaining SQL Server environments, including backup and recovery, performance tuning, and high availability configurations. 

• Familiarity with IT Service Management (ITSM) and ITIL frameworks. ITIL v4 certification is preferred or must be obtained within 8 weeks of starting the role. 

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. 

• Good written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder engagement and technical documentation. 

• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team. 

• Detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement. 

• Experience in scripting and automation for database management tasks is a plus (e.g., PowerShell, T-SQL). 

This role is ideal for a SQL DBA with mid-level experience looking to expand their expertise in a structured service delivery environment.

On-call and Shift Expectations:  Our positions are primarily focused on managed services, meaning you will be responsible for maintaining and improving our clients' IT systems (Applications and Infrastructure). Flexibility and adaptability are key, as you may be required to work in shifts to provide continuous support. Additionally, you may need to be on call to address incidents promptly and perform after-hours deployment activities as needed. Your ability to effectively manage these responsibilities will be crucial to ensuring the seamless operation of our services and client satisfaction
