Key Responsibilities
- Work effectively with the College of Teachers, Principal and Administration staff.
- Assist and support the Teacher in the school day, including modelling participation and supporting student inclusion.
- Participate in the development of educational adjustment plans and other adjustments for individual students based on best practice interventions for inclusion, wellbeing and learning.
- Facilitate small group work in the classroom or in break out rooms, independently.
- Maintain records and participate in child observations.
- Supervise children, exercising duty of care.
- Apply first aid and assist with personal hygiene appropriately.
- Foster a learning environment which supports independence and the reaching of potential, in each student, according to the principles of Steiner Education.
- Support learning a range of curriculum subject areas, including literacy and numeracy, including taking an active role in practical activities with children such as gardening, cooking, craft, music, games, nature walks.
- Attend relevant meetings, including a reasonable number of planning and professional development meetings, at the discretion of the Principal.
- Ensure appropriate behaviour of students in class, around the school and whilst on excursions or camps.
- Contribute to the care for Milkwood’s learning spaces, ensuring that the aesthetics, layout and management of the room reflect the cultural values of Milkwood Steiner School and support teaching and learning.
Qualifications
Applicants seeking employment as a TA in classes Transition-Year 8 require a minimum Certificate III Children’s Services (or working towards this), valid First Aid Qualification and an Ochre Card.
Applicants seeking employment as a TA in the Preschool require a minimum Certificate III Early Childhood Teaching (or working towards this), valid First Aid Qualification and an Ochre Card.
Selection Criteria
Essential
- A love for children and a commitment to the principles of Steiner Education
- Experience in Primary Schools or Early Childhood Settings with an understanding of Steiner childhood development
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and community including demonstrated skills in communication.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to the needs of children with disabilities, Trauma or other factors that affect their capacity to learn.
Desirable
- An interest in participating in areas of the school’s professional and cultural life and being an active member of the school’s professional community.
- Training or experience in a Steiner setting.
- Additional qualifications in Trauma, Disability support, Gifted Education, Indigenous Knowledge or qualifications in relevant therapeutic approaches.

Role Details
Dominican School is looking to appoint a passionate and dynamic individual to the role of Assistant Principal, Religious Identity & Mission (APRIM).
