The Opportunity

Under the direction of the Principal (or delegate), support and assist teachers to meet the students identified educational needs. Receiving little direct supervision and subject to occasional progress checks, the position will support teaching staff with student learning activities.

Each role is 28.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday), 40 weeks per year. The working hours are:

• Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays: 9:00am to 3:30pm (with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break)
• Tuesdays: 9:00am to 2:00pm (with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break)

Some flexibility and out of hours work will be required from time to time during busy, peak workload periods and to support special events. Overtime as applicable is available.

Duties include, and are not limited to :

• Assist student learning, where some discretion and judgement is involved, including evaluation and assessment, under the supervision of a teacher, of the learning needs of students.
• Carry out a wide variety of tasks associated with classroom learning experiences (e.g. assisting teachers in preparing, implementing and supervising classrooms and/or intervention programs).
• Apply personal knowledge and initiative to suggest modifications to educational programs to meet the learning needs of specific students, subject to approval of the teacher.
• Supervise and care for students with formally identified special needs in accordance with Personalised Plans for Learning (PPL) as applicable.
• Demonstrate practical activities within a variety of routines, methods, and experiences under supervision of teachers where discretion and judgement are required.

About You

• Demonstrated ability working, supervising, and communicating effectively with school students including supporting students with special needs.
• Demonstrate a broad knowledge of a range of inclusive and supportive behaviour techniques to positively contribute to student learning.
• Demonstrated ability to take significant initiative, apply solutions to a range of problems and analyse and plan approaches to effectively support students’ wellbeing, social interactions and learning.
• Excellent interpersonal skills contribute to positive interactions within the school community and with external parties and to supervise other staff, as required.
• Ability to work with low level of direct supervision, take direction on broader technical aspects of the work and apply solutions to a range of problems by analysing and planning to meet required outcomes.
• Effective time management and organisational skills and ability to prioritise tasks to meet timelines for required outcomes, taking responsibility for own outcomes.
• Proficiency in using a computer and applicable programs, and the ability to operate office and other ICT equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.

The Learning Support Specialist is a subject matter expert and largely impacts the student experience by guiding students through their learning journey.

Candidates must have industry experience, demonstrated knowledge of the course subject area, and strong interpersonal skills. This is a full-time, remote role.

The purpose of this position is to provide assistance and aid learners enrolled in programs within the fields of machine learning and AI, data engineering, data science, and data analytics. The successful candidate will have proven experience as a data engineer and/or data scientist. The candidate must have excellent time management skills and the desire to work in a fast-paced educational tech environment where supplementing the educational journey of learners is priority. We are looking for a professional who does not mind a busy schedule and wants to provide excellent internal and external customer service.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Monitor and respond to all student inquiries via the learning management system and learner support software, using compassion and understanding for the student learning journey within 24 hours or less of submission
• Rely on industry knowledge to quickly and clearly guide students through complex assignments and questions
• Provide prompt feedback that includes pointed questions that will help guide students towards correct answers and allows them to build problem-solving skills
• Work with students who are both new to the subject matter, as well as those with experience or who are further along in their careers
• Suggest course improvements to assigned Program Delivery Manager (PDM) and Designer to ensure content is communicated clearly, accurately, and effectively in videos, assignments and collateral materials
• Communicate and collaborate with the Emeritus team on a regular basis to enhance course delivery and to solve unexpected course challenges

Skills and Qualifications:

• 5+ years of extensive work experience in the field of data engineering, data science, or data analytics
• Professional and/or academic experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence
• Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, and the use of GitHub
• Experience using data visualization tools (i.e. Tableau)
• Experience using Microsoft Azure
• Advanced academic background in mathematics, particularly statistics, calculus, and linear algebra
• Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to listen effectively, respond appropriately, and maintain a mutual comfort level while working with a diverse student population
• Experience using Canvas or other related learning management system

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience using Slack and Teams, as communication tools
• Experience working with support/service software or ticketing system
• Experience with using bug tracking and feedback tools
